Wada: FFXIII on Xbox 360 "was not a hard decision to make"

ff13_360box With the release of Final Fantasy XIII in the US, it marked the first time that the series landed on a non-PlayStation console since disc-based games came along. There have been loads of theories all over the web as to why and how that happened, but here's Yoichi Wada's side of the story.

Well, just a tiny bit of it.

"The Xbox team has been asking us to have a [Final Fantasy] game developed on our platform," the Square Enix CEO told Siliconera. "Also, the Xbox 360 console is available in many homes in US and European markets so that was not really a hard decision to make."

Square Enix had been working with Microsoft since Final Fantasy XI, and the third party publisher had been releasing a number of games for the Xbox 360 since then, with XIII being the latest. It appears now, however, that the 360's run with Final Fantasy will not be making a streak, seeing as both Versus XIII and Final Fantasy XIV will not be available for the platform.

Final fantasy has been a nintendo only game almost as long as a PS only game if not longer... what the heck!? 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 was for nintendo hardwares. And remember.. Final fantasy 3 has never been on anything else but nintendo devises (NES and DS). How ever it the firs time they make the decition to release it multiplaform from day one. If you don count with the japanese release.

Hmmm Glenn, not trying to sound as if i know everything, but FF 7 and FF 8 have been released on the PC, also, FF XI has been released for the PC and Xbox360.

Yeah.. But those titles was ported over after their main releases. This is the first TRUE multiplatform release.

"PC" isn't a platform
It is a collection of hardware.

Windows OS, Linux OS and Mac OS are the platforms, Windows OS being the specific platform that Final Fantasy was released onto.

This guys know how to make business, the PS2 had the largest install base ever (so far) and you can see why never intended to continue the series on other consoles (Crystal series don't count), now that the 2 HD consoles are in their best time it's obvious they would go Multi since both consoles don't even sum what the PS2 had back in the day...Valve should learn from them as the PS3 is a little behind the 360 at 33.5 million as of december 09 against 39 million as of January 10

i think ppl think of FF as a sony francise as it was FF7 that made the series kick off particularly in the west which was first released on ps1 as well as most the future great titles like FF 8, 9 and 10

Well for me, it was FF6/3.
Like every kid in the early 90's I had a SNES, and on that SNES I had Final Fantasy 3 (A.K.A. 6). Well I had Mystic Quest too, but FF6/3 had a better story.

The reason FF7 got on Sony's Playstation was only Because the CD system was made for Nintendo BUT Nintendo Dropped it and Sony just ran with it them self's And adding to the fact that Square Enix wanted to take the next step in Gaming and Nintendo Or Sega was just not there or what Square Enix wanted at the time.

FF13 is being created with PC-based dev tools, but with plans only for PS3/Xbox 360 console release.

Why do people keep saying this sort of generalization? I mean, there is that PC FFXI, there are FF:CC on wii/gc, even some DS FF games, heck there is even a iphone FF now... and that's just off the top of my head.

I love the fact that FF13 was released on 360 since I only had to pay 2 bucks for a DL disk and downloaded it for free. Multi-platform games FTW

Actually the person who said FF13 versus will not be on PC.

FINAL FANTASY 14 WILL BE ON PC! FF14 is basically gonna be a newer, more graphical version of FF11 AKA another FF online game. So yes it will be on PC because most online MMORPGs are made on PC first.

Plus I remember SE were trying to beat Everquest and such on PC aswell by using FF11.

SE is only releasing FF14 on PC to battle against Blizzards WOW, they did it once before with FF11.

Again remember this, Final Fantasy 14 will NOT be like the other FF games, its just an updated version of FF11 but better.
