Viva Pinata: Three reasons it's not a hit

The game managed to sell roughly 40,000 titles (barring Warhammer jokes) last month. This, compared to the likes of Gears of War (1 million+) or FEAR (100,000+).

What makes the sales numbers intriguing are the game's ratings - over at a couple of sites, though there wasn't much forum activity for Microsoft's attempts at a more family-oriented title. With these facts in mind,
  1. Game developer Rare Ltd also developed two Xbox 360 launch titles - Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo - that never really took off. Not to mention that Rare developing a wholesome, family-oriented 360 game didn't sit too well with the guys who were accustomed to their other titles.
  2. The game lacks a main character, as compared to games like Harvest Moon, which had you playing in the shoes of a central character.
Those were the major reasons that the dude thinks made this one of the Xbox 360's more overlooked titles of this year. For the guys who'd like the full details, click on the read link.

» i don't really agree....

Its probably not a hit because not many people have played it. They see pinatas and see that its based on a kids TV show (or the show is based on it, whatever) so they don't want to play it. Every single person that i've talked to that has played it said they loved it (and these are all 21-24 males and females).

Its just a case of bad avertising (they marketed it as a very childish game when its really not).

don't know anyone who has played it and not enjoyed it, but those same people turned the game down when they saw me playing. badly marketed, but well made game

» Dont agree

Well i surely dont agree with those "facts", Viva pinata is a fun game for everyone for adults and kids.

The thing is that many games that are best sellers are shootes with blood and violance (I am not Jack T. lol, and i love Gears of War). Viva pinata is a diffrent game that :intoduces "peace" and "relaxation" . Viva pinata i awesomne and should be played by more people.

PS

I hate Pokemon

Theres no interest in games such as this for adults. I don't see single digit aged people being able to afford a next gen console AND I don't see double digit aged parents letting their single digit aged kids play around with a tripple digit priced console.

..oh and what was supposed to be next gen about this game? Oh yes, the many active graphics on the screen. BORING!

» reason #4

the endless cutscenes when a new pinata comes near make the game unplayable.
