Valve turning to Xbox 360

Valve, renowned developer of PC classics Half Life 1 & 2, have announced their support for Microsoft's next-generation gaming machine, with their first title for the console "coming soon". Others seem to be in the pipeline too. Not surprisingly, all of the games will be utilizing Valve's highly flexible and scalable Source engine, already used in PC games such as Half Life 2 and Vampires: Bloodlines.
Gabe Newell, Valve president and co-founder said the collaboration between Valve and Microsoft will give "game designers the chance to create powerful entertainment experiences". And, he hinted at exploring new grounds with his FPS-proven company on the Xbox 360: "Whether developing a traditional FPS, RTS, RPG or delving into new genres, the Xbox 360 is a great platform for expanding Source and our game experiences".

This move comes as a bit unexpected, since Valve reportedly weren't happy how the Half Life 2 port for the original Xbox turned out - Newell even dissed the Xbox 360 and PS3 at one point. Still, this should be great news for Xbox 360 fans. Valve games have always been highly respected in the gaming community, and seeing new, original titles developed by Valve is definitively an exciting thought.

Valve is one of my favorite developers! It's sad Gabe had to eat crow by stating this (hopefully some Dev will eat crow with the Rev too) but the news is great none less!

I really dont understand why anyone would get a 360? All of the good games are PC ports. Why not just buy the PC version? You even get Halo on PC.

This is a lame announcement. We will continue to support the console we are supporting. Ok? whats the news?

I'll be happy with my PC (PC superset of 360) and PS3 and for $hits and giggles why not the puny console with the remote control (if it cost 100$ that is).

Why not get a gaming PC? Too *****ign expensive, duh. I boughht a 30" HDTV, 6.1 Dolby digital Audio reciever, 6 very nice spearkers, and a 15" home theater subwoofer AND my 360 and 2 games for less than what I would need for a gaming PC. Plus, Racing games suck ass on PC. So do fighting games. Also, I can be in my living room wihle playing 360, not tied down in my bedroom.

Dont get me wrong, I love PC gaming, but not until I get out of college and can afford to blow about 2 grand for everything I need.

I think valve is one of the most talented developers in the world. Microsoft should buy Valve, and Bioware. Image if Bioware/Pandemic, Valve, and Bungie co developed a game. Holy *****.
