Members of the Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360, PC) Boycott committee dropped by the Valve offices for a visit, wherein they were given a tour, a small chat with Gabe Newell, and news that the Left 4 Dead (Xbox 360 and PC) team is still very much interested in beefing up part 1's universe, so much so that they are, in fact, cooking up another DLC to come after Crash Course.

Boycotters coming back

Reported Walking Target:

Now for some good news: There is more DLC for Left 4 Dead coming after Crash Course. We were given a rough idea of what it should be, however we were asked not to talk too much about it so it didn’t “influence the creative process”. I can tell you this: it’ll either be a new Special Infected, a new Campaign or new Weapon(s). It’s definitely one of the three, perhaps more. This is pretty much the only thing that we were asked not to talk about (remember, *asked* we didn’t sign anything). To that end, we’ll continue to bug Chet about this after Crash Course drops.

I can tell you guys this though; Chet and the rest of the L4D team are still excited about the original four survivors and working the stories of L4D and L4D2 together. To that end, Gabe told us that they’re working on a project that will bridge the stories of L4D and L4D2 and that it will be available through steam (I believe the word ‘free’ was tossed in there too, just don’t quote me on it). It was also hinted at that they were doing something for the Mod community; Agent of Chaos heard more about that though.

As for their bit of quality time with Gabe Newell, the Valve exec revealed that the fans' reaction to the announcement of the sequel was "unexpected" and "thoroughly shocking to Valve".

See guys, it's not that bad. They are coming out with more new stuff for L4D. Can't wait myself! More interesting bits from the Valve visit can be found via the source link below.

It's not that..

It's just that "Left for Dead 2" sounds gimmicky as *****. They should have just released an expansion. L4D deserves to stay accessible in all one executable file.

Ill play the troll...

I personally think valve sucks, no matter how cool everyone thinks portal is.

by pspman16 - 2009-09-10 17:02
Portal wasn't made by Valve

Valve didnt create portal. They went to an indie game design expo and saw a college kids game called portal. Valve said theyd pay him money for it and release it to the general public. If i remember right at the expo there was only 2 levels created the college kid worked with Valve to create the rest of the game.

correct

It was a group of college kids. I've talked to one of them before (Jeep Barnet), on the facepunch (GMOD) forums.

Ignorant PoS alert.

Actually a bunch of kids from DigiPen made a game called Narbacular Drop. Valve hired them and gave them all the resources they needed to create a game based on the same idea.

Relys is a moron as well.

..

i cant wait for this game!

Why?

Why do you people b*tch about this, then go out and buy Madden YEAR AFTER YEAR?

What the hell's with the double standard when it comes to Valve?

Meh

I sorta get why people are so angry, for PC gamers anyway. They're used to their games lasting for years with lots of support and updates but this game was also on the 360 so they should have seen it coming. Valve is taking the chance at L4Ds popularity and pushing out a sequel. I would have loved to see new campaigns come out as DLC instead of the survival mode, I had more fun doing the campaigns than anything else. But it just seemed like Valve wasn't about to do that. Then they announced the sequel and I was glad and then they announced a L4D campaign and now I don't see the point in L4D2 if they can do all that. But I guess the bright side is L4D2 will bring all new campaigns and characters and Valve will have learned their lesson and will support this game better.

I'll get L4D2 but I wont pay 60$ for an expansion. I'll get it pirated from some guy off craigslist for 5$. Thats how everyone else should "boycott" if they want to boycott.

...

I'ts people like you who are raping the pc game communtiy, please buy yor games... I remeber the days when there where actually a load of good games for the pc, but now we maybe get one good one a year because of piracy.

valve is the new ea

valve is just trying to profit at every turn. I have yet to see any thing in l4d2 to make it a new game. its just new levels in the day time. there is nothing significantly different from the original

by Aces In The Palm - 2009-09-11 13:22
lol

classic, because its so right.

all they do is change the roster, in NBAs case maybe add a little bit better net action.

all of which could of been done with a simple DLC or cheap expansion pack, nope sorry, must purchase a full game every year.

Ummmm

Surely I don't really have to compare the two different games, do I? I don't understand it either, and I always bash EA for it all the time. The Madden series is a joke year to year. Plus it's a sports game, and I don't like them anyway. I would bet most of the people who are b*tching about this don't play nor buy Madden, and if they do don't buy but maybe one per console.

Now, compare that to how Valve USUALLY does things? Yeah... pretty self-explanatory. Hell, they don't even release games very often!

Now, I like this news. It means that new stuff is being made, either in response to the criticism or they planned it all along I don't care. BUT, to not announce it until after the announcement of L4D2?

Anyway, I ramble. In conclusion, EA sucks, Valve has always been awesome, and I can only hope that Valve doesn't slide anymore and climbs back up to the top of the "never *****s you over" mountain.

by ShinseiTom - 2009-09-11 14:50
Ok... just no

I closed the tab right as I saw this, and couldn't help. No, Valve is nowhere NEAR as horrible as EA. At the least, L4D2 DOES have new content, unlike Madden which is the same crap year after year.

I will not defend Valve against anybody mad over L4D2 being so quick and have content that probably should be in the first game, as I don't like it much either,

BUT they are most definitely NOT the new EA.

by spitfyre1985 - 2009-09-11 16:35
whatever

I don't think that valve actually had any intentions of still supporting the original L4D until they realized how many people were outraged at the fact that they didn't follow through on their promises to support the game.

That would be the only reason why DLC would come out for the original AFTER the sequel hits. That means that they have not been working on the DLC until well after they started working on the sequel. Poor Valve tried to pull an EA move and turn what should be DLC into a new game to make some cash had no luck.

by Master Chef - 2009-09-11 19:53
Shinsei nailed it

People are angry because Valve has been so awesome for so long, and now folks are afraid Valve is going down the "sequel every year" route. They've also been bi*ching and moaning about dumb crap lately, like "forced to charge for DLC" or "PS3 is too hard to dev for".

I won't be buying L4D2, but fine if others want to. I personally did not get my $50 out of L4D1, it was pretty bare-bones to begin with for a full-priced game. No way am I paying $60 for L4D2.

I won't start liking Valve again until they say SOMETHING about Half-Life, Give out some real info

by Digitus - 2009-09-12 03:08
What?

I pirate my games for 360. I don't pirate PC games and if I did pretty sure they'd be free anyway.

I don't play PC games because theirs too much piracy.../har har.
