US Airways and Xbox 360s don't mix

If you've got plans of flying somewhere and you want to take your Xbox 360 with you, you might want to read this first before packing your console into your bag. One guy checked his Xbox 360 when he flew with US Airways, he was assured it was alright, and when he got home, his console had been opened, and its parts were stuffed into a ziploc.

This guy, Adam, writes to The Consumerist:

I was flying out of Logan Airport and I checked my Xbox 360 in my baggage. The agent assured me that there would be no problem with it. When I got home my I found that they had put a little ziploc bag on top of my things, and the bag was filled with tiny metal components that used to be in the Xbox. It's broken now and they're telling me tough luck. Any advice?

It seems that security found something in the Xbox 360 that would compromise safety, and US Airways had to take the component out to make sure. It's not clear what the exact reason was that prompted the ziploc security measure, but that's one problem you can't send over to Microsoft for repairs.

I carried my PS2 and a GameCube in my checked bag once on an international flight (to and from), didn't have trouble. They did rife through my bags both times though, it was obvious. However, the last couple times I've been flying I've been putting the actual console in my carry on (it has wheels!) so I can keep a closer watch on it. I wonder if his 360 was in a box? I never put my consoles in boxes; I wrap clothes and stuff around it and make sure it doesn't move

Or he could have just carried it on and saved himself the trouble.

That's why I carry a bag with me, I don't trust them.

When I fly away on vacation I never bring any of my electronics with me, not even my PSP where I can put it anywhere. I'm going away to relax and enjoy not to play video games. But give US Airways a hard time and make them pay for it. ;-)

I think the guys that checked it just hate 360's lol I've taken my PS3 on several occasions and never had this problem.

it is called RRoD rage. It is fouhd in a small select population of owners of Xbox 360s who have gotten the RRoD. In this small set of people, people get extremely violent whenever they see an Xbox 360 this is due to them remembering the frustration they had to go through when they got their RRoD. Thus causing them to act in rage to any Xbox 360s they see

Can you take an airline to small claims court? This guy got f*cked

I carry the things I really don't want to lose with me, I don't trust those monkeys.

I am pretty sure by flying with an airline you automatically give them the right to do whatever they want to your belongings and person. Hell, they can stick a finger in your ass if they really want/need to....

They do have the right to do whatever they want with your luggage, especially if they feel it could possibly "compromise security". And nowadays airlines would probably consider a ball of lint a compromise of security lol

was checking in the xbox360.

They scan thousands of laptops every day, and they would have done just the same to the Xbox. Now, if you can prove that they follow the same process with a checked in laptop, you might have a leg on which to stand on in court.
