Halo 3 Beta via Crackdown suffers the download hiccups - Image 1

The highly anticipated Public Beta Test of Halo 3 lit the Mancannon too early as so many gamers simultaneously attempted to download the beta version via RealTime World's Crackdown. Many sites who covered the timely setback speculated that the Beta would be delayed for another 24 hours.

Don't worry, Helper Cat is helping out with the patch - Image 1But the issue has already been addressed by the Live team at Microsoft, and they've already pinpointed the problem. An update by Bungie has mentioned that Microsoft is already testing out the final stages of a patch, which is speculated to be available as a patch grabbable only through Crackdown.

Bungie pegged an ETA for the patch release at around three to six hours after the patch tests fine, but that was at around 5:22 a.m. PDT, so we have yet to hear of any update regarding the patch.

As a reminder to those who already have the Halo 3 Beta: the problem doesn't affect you, so this patch wouldn't matter anyhow.

UPDATE: No, seriously. Bungie and Microsoft have come up with a solution that appears to fix the problem instantly. But a new problem has risen: seeing as everyone else will be downloading the patch, too, Bungie warns it could take up to four hours just to squeeze the fix through and apply it to Crackdown.

So to make up for all the inconvenience this has and will cause you (for the next few hours or so), Bungie has announced that they will extend the duration of the Halo 3 Beta to June 10 (as opposed to June 6) at 11:59 PDT. If you happened to lose a day's worth of gaming today, Bungie is offering a "kiss and make up" solution with four more days of Beta testing fun.

I hear clearing your hard drive's chache will let you download it. If i remebmer right, you select your hard drive and press X X LB RB X X and that clears the cache.

No ones gonna help you since you're an ass. Figure it out yourself, moron. I got the email invite from the very beginning, so I have the same way as you for unlocking the beta and I figured out how to download it.

Ugh, last night, at around 7:00 PM It the "Halo 3 beta" option in crackdown, was grey..... It said "PLease wait for another date.." or something like that.

.....But does it work now? For sure?

» WTH!

It took me up to 4 hours, just to play 7 matches (maybe less). Whats cool is that marketplace offers a free 48 hour Gold Membership, and a slice of heaven.

I should have saved the GM for the weekend when I'm allowed to play. Hey, I couldn't help myself.

by EvilM0nkey - 2007-05-17 08:26
» ... three weeks?!

Last December I purchased a "premium" edition and had little or no fuss. Had the occasion "dirty disc" error message pop up, but nothing serious. 2 days ago I did an 8 hour game fest and well ... the system is freezing up on multiple game titles.

Customer Service is saying 14 "business days" total. So if your a Crackdown owner or beta member, doesn't that suck if you had to send your system in?

Cheers and consider yourself lucky.

» thats to bad

yea i had to do the same thing but i went and got another because i was not missing the beta

by MGSROCKS1 - 2007-05-17 10:13
» I sent my in too

I had to send in my Xbox360 for repair too. I'm suppose to get it back tomorrow so I'm crossing my fingers. I haven't been able to check out the new spring update, play Gears of war, and most importantly Halo 3. There also lots of demos and arcade games out that I want to try out badly. I also just bought an HDTV, so I can't wait to see how the games will look like on my 32" 1080i TV!

by qw - 2007-05-17 10:22
» It DID work

I cleared my cache at about 7:20 PM yesterday, and bam got the Crackdown update and Halo 3 beta was available for download. Took 20 minutes

by jayhawker09 - 2007-05-17 21:21
» dude

you dont need to mention the specs, nobody cares. second, 32" is weak and 1080i is even weaker. your tv sucks
