Last week, Undead Labs announced their ambitious open-world zombie apocalypse project dubbed Class3. This week, the devs took some time out of their busy schedules to shed more light on what gamers can expect from the Xbox 360 exclusive game.

First of all, Class3 is merely the precursor to the more ambitious and appropriately named Class4. As a third-person action game, Class3 will let up to two players play either online or on the same console. Class4, which will also be 360 exclusive, will bring things to a more MMO-like level with thousands of players roaming the game's apocalyptic landscape.

"Class3 plays like a sandbox game," writes Undead Labs member Emily on the studio's official website. "We don’t lock you into an area and tell you where to go and what to do.

"When we use the term “open world game” we are talking about freedom of decision making and goal setting. We’re talking about NOT being strictly channeled through the world or being forced down a linear path. There will be Big Things going on in the world — even an unfolding story — but it will always be up to you to choose what you want to do and when and how you want to do it."

The thing most people don't get about this being a 360 exclusive game is that it's just been essentially killed as a traditional mmo. For all of you who truly understand the kind of server dedication big mmo's like WOW take, you should realize that Microsoft will never allow that much bandwith to be focused toward 1 game. The only way they could get around this kind of an issue would be to have many smaller servers, probably a maximum of 500 people or so per, and make the whole game instanced. So you really wouldn't be playing with other people, unless they were at the same point in the storyline you were in. I'm an xbox fan and cannot wait for this game to come out, but I'm accepting the cold hard truth. This will not be an mmo like we are used to. It'll probably just be something more along the lines of a zombie GTA RPG. Still sounds cool, but definately not what undead labs made it sound like in the beginning. They'll never be able to have the dynamic, always changing landscape and environment they promised, because MS will just never allow it to happen. And now that MS is the official publisher, this game will never be able to come out on any other console platform (ps3). Kind of a moot point anyway, because ps3's online community is so A.D.D. it can never hold the same kinds of numbers that 360 holds (hence the reason Undead Lab's only real viable choice was MS anyway). All around crappy situation, but I do wish these guys the best in creating the most fun game possible.
