Ultimate ultimatum: Xbox360 or girlfriend

the breakup - Image 1It's a typical gamer dilemma. A guy over at the Gamespot forums is in a sticky situation. His non-gamer girlfriend has given him an ultimatum: get rid of the X360 or she walks.

He's asking fellow gamers for advice, which does he keep? His beloved 360 or his beloved? He tried getting her into games by buying Viva Pinata for their anniversary. The thing is, non-gamer girlfriend apparently has terrible motion sickness and he got addicted to it instead. To the point of thinking about Fudgehogs when he's with her.

It's an iffy subject, and we couldn't help thinking whether the girlfriend's annoyance with his attachment to the console is reasonable or not. Maybe he could try playing less, or playing when she's not around. Or he could just take her to dinner and talk about reaching a midpoint somewhere.

Well, what do you guys think? Should he dump the girl or the 360? We'd love to hear what you have to say.

» Keep the 360

Everyone needs some escapism in their life and i know mine is to get away from work and the gf.

perhaps she is the reason that he does spend so much time on the 360.

plenty more fish in the see and i am he will be able to find a gamer gf

If he caves in to this ultimatum, she will use more of them against him in the future. My advice to this guy: get out now while you've still got the x360

» there is a soulution, assuming this woman has a heart

plan a secret date, take her somewhere u know she wants to go, make it really special, and then start talkin, dont lead with that topic but just ease into it, and just say that u can understand y she want u off the games, buttell her that its something u enjoy and u think she should be understanding of that, im sure that if she is human its possible to reach a mid-way point, hell my GF hates it when im playin Gears while shes over, but i mean we ahve a mutual unde5rstanding that games are just there for when theres nothing else to do she is "number 1" hope it helps :)

Its normal and happens alot to people who are addicted gamers.

Its funny because if they gave half the attention to their GF that they give to games, then there would be no problem. The problem is that, people will choose to play games rather then to spent time going out with their GF.

Anyone who choses a game over real life is a complete idiot. Meaning anyone who chooses a Xbox360 over a girlfriend is a complete moron. Compromise, thats where the solution is, either limit yourself to a few hours a week, or promise to never choose to play games over going out. Because if you have the money to buy a Xbox360 + games, then you have plenty of money to go out a few times a month.

» Let her go

If she doesn't want him to play then she should go and he should get a girl who understands that a man needs a little time to himself. Get her her own TV with a TiVo like I did with my girl and she'll keep herself busy. It's not good for a girl to be up under you all the time.

by BigGoronSword - 2007-01-30 04:50
» Go for the Wii

Give her baby steps. All the buttons, analog sticks, and shoulder triggers look confusing to her. If you want her to become a gamer, take baby steps. As we all know Wii is great for family and party games, so why not introduce her with that. At first, don't pressure her. Buy the game, and start playing Wii Sports when she's around. If she notices you flailing about and think it looks fun, then she just may give it a try. However, there is the chance of her saying "You're playing a video game about tennis? Why don't you go outside and do the exact same thing? I don't understand you people!", then I've made you spent 250+ dollars you probably needed on something else.

It's a chance. I know the guy started on Viva Pinata guessing it would attract his girlfriend (with all the colorful animals), but maybe that was too complicated for her.

I got my (then) girlfriend to be a newbie gamer. I still had my Gameboy Color lying about, so I introduced her with Mario and Tetris. Sure I took very small baby steps, but at least I got her attention and sometimes she'd watch me play tWW.

» Priorities...

Dude needs to get his priorities straight. My wife does not like it when I'm on the 360 so you know what I do? I game when she's working and I'm not, or I keep game time very limited.

She's happy because I'm spending time with her when she's home, and the 360 is happy because I still get in a few hours of gaming every night before she gets off work. win/win.

Then again, if I could've found a gamer girlfriend first, that would've solved the problem ahead of time.

my gf usually gives me head while im playing video games so i dont really have a problem with choosing one over the other. she says she likes to try and 'distract' me while im playing, so she enjoys it, i enjoy it, we're both having fun lol. Xbox360 - it's goooood to play together!

pretty sad when you have to wait until your spouse is not around to do one of your favorite hobbies. Some people can be very selfish. Dont get mad at your spouse because YOUR ass never bothered to get a hobby, and you need 24/7 attention at ALL times. Does she get mad because you watch TV too?? Because if she doesnt, it doesnt make sense when both ativities are just about taking up time.

» haha loser

Yet your reading it then wow your smart. Also stick with the girl durrr. Unless your going to dump her anyways lol

by Chad - 2007-01-30 08:38
» Drop Her

Dump the girl. The other half of the ultimatum is irrelevant. It doesn't matter that its a 360. Any girl who throws out ultimatums needs dropped. First its your 360, then its your nights out, then your friends, money, and maybe even your soul. Girls like this just aren't worth it.

On second thought, maybe suggest to her that should could try earning a little attention. I'm guessing she isn't much to look at if Pinatas are getting more time than she is.

If she's like this imagine how she will act when married,

if you tell her like it is she would still probably stay, if you kiss her ass she's good as gone anyways. either way P###y is easy 2 get anyways...

Me and my woman went spiltsville over my 360 and so be it!!!! she set me free

» Depends

If he's actually neglecting her to play games then he's a loser and I don't care what he does (he deserves to lose both), but if he spends plenty of time with her and she still wants him to get rid of it I'd say keep the system because the girl is a b*tch and it probably won't work out anyway.

by ***** her - 2007-01-30 15:17
» ***** her

***** her. If my g/f was like that I wouldnt take that ***** to the curb on *****in garbage day. Tell her now shes getting the ultimatum...either u keep it or she can take her ***** ass back home. In the words of Dane Cook "Go talk to your mom for four hours Im gonna go play XBOX" "Hey guys I just made my chick cry.......where's the gattling gun?"

by ... - 2007-01-30 16:34
» ....

to make it simple.

1.choose what u want

2.choose whats most important and postively affect you in the future.

3. be honest with her and urself if you dont care u dont care.

Last realize each decision has consequences so figure out what consequences youlll be dealling with

But truly i would either compromise and if she didn't budge on any compromise than i would make it her decison to compromise or leave me. because it would mean she didn;t my wants so she would realy be worried about me just her.

by .... - 2007-01-30 16:41

my bad i meant she would be worried about just herself and not me orwhat i want.

by TheX - 2007-01-30 19:03
» Do what I did

I went through a LOT of girls on my search for the perfect wife. My #1 priority? Get a girl whos laid back and doesnt have her head up her ass. Just so happened that the girl I found started loving games almost as much as I do.

by TheX - 2007-01-30 19:09
» Yeah thatll work

Problem with this scenario is sure she will be happy for a while, but no woman wants to end up with a *****. What will happen is she will start craving a bad boy/real man and she will dump you. Especially if shes giving out ultimatums. That just doesnt work in the real world.

by B1G T - 2007-01-30 20:24
» ***** 360

WELL THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS I HATE BOUT THE 360, ITS GAY, OVERPRIZED, AND BORING... I WOULD TAKE MY SUPER NINTENDO ANYDAY OVER THE 360... I HAVE A GIRLFRIEND AND THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD EVER LEAVE HER OVER GAMING(ESPECIAL LY THE 360)... THE 360 ISN'T GONNA GIVE U *****, IMPRESS YOUR FRIENDS OR TAKE CARE OF U WHEN UR SICK.... A GIRLFRIEND WILL....LOL

by _/|\_ - 2007-01-30 21:23
» Get a gaming girlfriend

All he needs to do is buy her the Sims 2 and the problem is solved instantly. When she starts to get bored and bothering him again then buy an add on for Sims 2. Once she's hooked on one game then she'll be a lot easier to convince about others.

I'm so glad my girl is a gamer. While I'm on 360 she's on PC. Just a shame F.E.A.R isn't multiplayer across platforms.

Having a gaming girlfriend changes your sex life too. It becomes more passionate as its an escape from your virtual world. We can both be sat in the same room gaming away (with headphones to stop distractions from the each others game), after a few hours of concentrated gaming, it can feel like you havent seen each other for days.

by Drop her - 2007-01-30 23:23
» Drop her

There are plenty of women who like computer games, get another one.

Then again there are plenty of women who can amuse them selves with a hobby of their own when you want to play

Drop the bint

eh the guy should let his g/f smash the gay system and keep her...

by Bob - 2007-01-31 10:41
» You realise thats a load of crap

No girl who's going to issue ultimatums is worth keeping. She can't care that much is she's prepared to walk so easily so why keep in it when he could find a girl that he likes that is also willing to put up with him playing games?

And don't give me the 12 yr old "But he won't get sexorz for teh time" crap. Anyone old enough to be in a good relationship would understand that, anyone not old enough is probably too nervous to even talk to a girl anyway.
