Turn 10 on Xbox 360 bricking: it's not Forza 2 - Image 1

In a weekly Pitpass community update made back in Monday, Turn 10 has confirmed that Microsoft's Forza Motorsport 2 does not cause the Xbox 360 faults directly. But because there are still claims that could cause alarm to existing Xbox 360 owners, Turn 10 has reiterated that they do not have a solution for the issue.

"We've gone and tested Forza 2 extensively against the hardware and have confirmed that the game itself does not brick Xbox 360 consoles," said Community Manager Che Chou. He assures people that although the instance reports may seem numerous, they note that it's a small percentage of users that have reported the issue.

That said, however, Che Chou did comment, "We acknowledge that it's very frustrating. ... There isn't really a software solution here." He pointed out that Microsoft's warranty and unit replacement service was still active, stating that the company would "ensure that newer units -- or at least the ones they return to you -- will have the red rings of death issue resolved."

.

Games don't make the 360 overheat. It's when people stand it up, put it in the entertainment center with no airflow, or use it for hours on a 90 degree day. The 360's cooling is adequate for ideal conditions but most people don't do that. It seems the damage slowly occurs over time, not all at once. That seems to explain why some systems last 8 months no problems then have the error. I'm just going by what one of my live friends thinks about his. The 360 is still a quality console. It just has a problem with the design of the GPU cooling. If it wasn't for that, its reliablility would be close to the PS3.

Forza 2...

I picked up my 360 on launch day and never had a problem with any other games. When I tried playing Forza 2 the game would ALWAYS freeze on the loading screen before a race. This happened for both the retail game and the demo. Seems like there's something wrong with the game to me :\

Common Sense

pardon my asking but I'm really trying to understand ur point here.. how can you lay claim that the 360 is a quality console if it has a problem with the GPU cooling (present in each one of he 360s)??? which causes it to die... aren't ur statement contradictory??? and the "if it wasn't for that" statement well my friend IT IS already that... it's not like you to use hypothetical scenarios in ur arguments Common Sense.. u know better. for a $600 console you would expect Sony to put out a trustworthy machine... but wouldn't you expect that out of a $400 console as well?

Wait for the 720

This is trully sad for 360 owners! But hold on, you can wait for the 720, it should be powerful and well ventilated enough not to crash !!! Oups, sorry... Microsoft probably won't allow the compatibility of 360 games on the 720... Time to get a PS3 !!!

RIP

Maybe its a weird coincidence, but my 360 died Monday night. I have only played Forza 2 since it's release. I've owned my console since Nov. '05 and have not had an issue until now. Again, maybe just a coincidence, but it still sucks the same.

you can steal my name, but never the 360's dominance

The 360 is still kicking the PS3s arse all over the world even with quality issues. That's all the proof you need the PS3 is a near useless console.

How long until gran turismo comes out? Over one year? Then you still need to pay more to download "extras" like damage modeling and a full car lineup? Nice way of sony to charge you more than $60 to get a complete game. Looks like they are setting a trend like with motorstorm. Well you should be used to it. It usually takes sony at least a year to catch up with the 360's games.

The XBOX 360 is quality built. The problem is a design flaw, not manufacturing. MS needs to make a s*itload of those new heatsinks and put those in the new consoles or redesign them altogether.

Common Sense makes a decent point for once

The 360 actually is built very well, design flaw !+ manufacturing defect
