Final Fantasy XIII director Motomu Toriyama has some good news for fans awating the game's international release. On the game's official website, Toriyama announced that the game's overseas version is now complete, along with a short apology for the long wait.

Here's a snippet:

Final Fantasy XIII overseas version is finally completed. I am sorry for the long wait. At present, members of the development team in Japan are on a New Year holiday while awaiting an approval for the master disc.

The overseas version was developed simultaneously with the Japanese one as we wanted to ensure that it comes out as soon after the Japanese release date as possible.

Toriyama also drew attention to the improvements made to the final version, one of which is a reworking of the characters' facial animations. The movements have been synched with the English dub, as you can see in the international trailer we posted yesterday.

Final Fantasy XIII will be released simultaneously in North America and Europe on March 9.

this is either very good.. or very bad..
I mean... It sounds like they where in a big hurry to get it done.. And things do not always get the best quality when its done in a hurry.
But on the other hand.. I never had any major complains about Square Enix quality. And they have won my trust.
So im feeling pretty happy to hear that its done.

Why did they not release it simultaneously then? Thats right! they were not done with the game simultaneously. And they wanted to release it as close to the japanese release as possible. And that musst have brought some stress on them right. Caus the game is already delayed as it is.
And hey! Its a final fantasy game :P

"Toriyama also drew attention to the improvements made to the final version, one of which is a reworking of the characters' facial animations."

That means that they had to rework the japanese animations to fit the english voices...
Conlusion: They did the Japanese animations before making them on the international version.

And the article only sais that they developed the game versions simultaneously. but that does not mean that they did everything in sync now does it.

And thanks to them cutting it in half to fit it on Xbox discs it only took them half the time to get it ready. :-?

You do realize that they decided on multiplatform way too far into the development cycle to really change anything, right?

I mean, you can spew your idiocies as much as you want, but in the end, thats just what they are... Idiocies.

FYI, the game is terrible, and why its terrible has nothing to do with what platform its on. SE just crapped themselves again. Always wanting to be cinematic and crap.. well, thats what people got, a piece of crap cinema game.

You do realize that they stated an "unnamed" company was complaining about the size of the data. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't have been a blu-ray issue. So, they put half of the game on the cutting room floor to make the company happy. And yes, I hear the game sucks. Just don't call facts idiocies.

you do realise that blu-ray disks although having a large capacity have a terrible read speed therefore making the need for mandatory installs on some games for the ps3 and some data even having to be written in more then one place so that it can be read in time with no delays therefore the extra space is needed for the terrible read speed

They cut.. gasp, the multi-audio tracks. The actual game data isnt that large, looking at the bluray right this moment. Hate to break it to you, but your drum banging just makes you look even more stupid.

Fun fact: 90% of PS3 games dont use a fraction of a bluray, except having 5 different language files for no reason.

Another fun fact, most multi-disc 360 games are only because of multi-language support, because surround sound audio takes up so much space.

Third fun fact, there is no way they could have 'cut' anything that would have made the game better. it sucks because its linear, and it was clearly designed that way. Until the 11th chapter the game is a storybook, and was clearly designed that way from the get-go (much like FF8 and FF10.)

Your fact checking could use some checking. Import the damn game and see for yourself. Stop making up things you 'heard' when its a bunch of BS you spout because you have some weird obsession with a company and console that doesn't even know you exist. Such weirdly stalwart and mindless support of a company is always deeply disturbing.

I don't mind multi-disc. If that's what it takes to make a good game all the better.

I think that we need to get along on the fact that this FF is not what it could have been. I miss the old school seemingly simple formula of great RPG.

Fun fact: I think that disc swapping is something to look forward to.

Third fun fact: I never wanted to sound like a fanboy, (even though I own all 3 systems) but you give me no choice.

This game will not compare to any of the previous installments. I blame it all on SE. Not Xbox. Not PS3. Not Wii. Not even you. Peace, man.

Yes. This game seems to be a sorry excuse for a RPG. Don't take it so personal. Unless I'm talking to Bill. Then we may have some things to discuss. lol at your personal involvement.

Now we just need to hope that Hong Kong game review was an aberrattion and that we aren't waiting for a steaming pile of crap (albeit a very pretty pile of crap)

Is it true that majority of a Blu ray discs storage capacity is mostly taken up by uncompressed audio?

Just a question guys, please don't get all flamey :P

I think the Hong Kong review was a pile of crap itself. So far through the japanese version I've enjoyed it. Though I am somewhat biased, I can't really imagine that most people would find it that bad.

A $hit game made even $hittier since the american ps3 release has 360 graphics. The only reason to purchase this game was the graphics. Has no one heard anything about this game????

1) They announced that the us version would be on ps3/xbox360 about a year into the development
2) They 'claim' there would be no loss of game due to it being ported
3)Yes uncompressed audio takes up a good deal of space
4) Offically they have never said anything about 'cutting' half the game
5) Voice acting, syncing the lips, and redoing all the written words typically takes most companies 6-12 months to localize, so to go gold 1 month after the jap version is really good.

That said:
1)Anyone with a brain knows the ps3 version for us is identical looking to the ps3 version in japan,
2)we all know there is loss, there wont be multiple voice tracks even though blu-ray has room, they also have stated that the xbox version will have more compressed sound/audio, and in general people complain about how linear the game is (my personal beliefe is they took out backtracking cause it doesnt go well with 5-6 dual layer dvds.
3)Uncompressed audio is big, however its a misnomer when it comes to games. Its not truely uncompressed audio/video, its just in codecs that minimize the compression

A non biased helpful reply is becoming so rare on this site.

Does anyone here have a Blu ray drive on their computer? Now I'm really curious as to what % of the media is high end audio.

I have a blu-ray drive in my pc. I have no idea how big the audio files in PS3 games are or how they're even stored if they're uncompressed. Most games that I've seen use Dolby Digital 5.1. These are lossy compressed. As for blu-ray movies, what you have are m2ts files. These contain encoded video (usually VC-1 or AVC) along with one or more audio tracks. Sometimes they use LPCM, which is completely uncompressed audio, and it's freakin' huge. 16-bit, 48kHz is about 4608kbps. Most new movies use 24-bit sound, which is MUCH bigger. If you want to know what percentage of space the uncompressed audio takes up, it really depends on the movie.
I'm really perplexed by all of this talk of uncompressed audio in games. Very few blu-ray movies even use this anymore because of lossless audio codecs. Since the PS3 is capable of decoding these real-time (probably on it's sound chip without using cpu cycles, but I'm speculating) there should be no advantage to having uncompressed audio.
And all of this only applies to people who have a PS3 and have it hooked into a home theater system which supports lossless 5.1. TV speakers aren't good enough to tell the difference, and the XBox 360 can't output lossless multichannel audio over HDMI (HDMI 1.2 spec). Neither can do it over optical SPDIF.
