Too violent: John Woo's Stranglehold banned in Germany |
Ó
With today's numerous censorship issues in the video gaming industry, it isn't any wonder that they would focus their attention on John Woo's bloody gun ballet shooter, Stranglehold (PC, Xbox 360, PS3). However, it isn't video games' activists pulling the trigger this time. Rather, it's the authorities in Germany who refuse to have the game shipped to their shores after its recent European release. What's their beef with the game? Simply put, it's too violent. Then again, if you've watched any of John Woo's movies you would agree that the level of blood and gore in his films are a prerequisite to how he would "use movies as a language."
The German version of the game had several portions already toned down in terms of violent content and the like, however it didn't stop them from cutting off the game's release in the country altogether. While the statement given was specific for the Xbox 360 version of the game, it's no doubt that this will compromise the other platforms in which the game will also be released.

Again and again and again... Germany (The Country I live) doesnt solve a problem by banning a game! They should take care younger players dont get the game without banning ADULTS to play what they want to!!!!!!!!!!
Well, I will buy the Austrian version as always..
suckers...
The game sucks, you're not missing anything.
But you're right, censorship is never the answer.
Germany is taking this sh*t too far. This game isn't that violent, not nearly violent enough to constitute a ban. No severed heads or limbs, no rape, nothing besides shootings guys with guns and blood comes out.
the game doesnt suck your a retard. its so fun and makes you feel like your invincible because you kick so much ass in it. its just too short.
I agree banning will not solve the issue only make it a want to have must have item. BBC in England have proven this consistently by banning airplay for any song that had sexually explicit content and following week it was number one in the top 40.
Germany should as already stated just put it for sale with and X or adult rating.
Germany has through this ban helped the priates and modders. People will always pay for what they cannot have. This game like many other games should have parent participation in deciding what their children can or cannot play. We do not need the (democratic?) governments to dictate what we can or can not have.
The moment we hear its been banned then an aura of
"wow, I gotta know why " is introduced.
Duke Nukem had as much violence. Its graphics for the day were just not as good as what we now have. Stranglehold I thought was fun but the crooks were rather comic book style. If you want to ban a game then ban Medal of Honour because its a lot more realistic. Only difference is that the war games are based on historical figures and their dead already. Stranglehold if it were aliens instead of crooks would also be ok? Well done Germany, if I could give a prize for Prude of the year you just won.
Really when did the last Europol guy go blowing up ships and sinking them, or fighting a guy with a rocket launcher in a cafe? If its banned for realism then I would suggest they look at what they offer on tv at a time when children are viewing.
