Tony Hawk: Critics didn't give Ride a fair shake |

Video game critics aren't among Tony Hawk's favorite people right now. The pro skateboarder recently struck back at critics who slammed Robomodo's Tony Hawk: Ride, saying that they just weren't ready to give the game a fair shake.
"They were ready to discredit it before they even tried it, and if it didn't play exactly how they imagined it... then they passed it off," Hawk told the Sudbury Star in a phone interview.
The number of critics who presumably "passed it off" have resulted in Ride's PS3 version getting a low 47 score on Metacritic. The Xbox 360 version fared a little better at 48, while the one for Wii has a 61 score.
The Birdman also added the following on his Twitter account: "Most snarky critics had their minds set before ever seeing/playing the game. I'm proud of what we created; it's innovative, responsive & fun."
Speaking of responsive, Hawk also defended the game's board peripheral in the Star interview. "I don't agree with people who say the board's not responsive," he said. "I think that they're just not giving it a fair shake. And I think a lot of them came into it with an attitude that it's going to suck."
"I know that (Ride) is super fun, and I think there's a misconception that I just stick my name on a game," he continued. "I brought this idea to Activision, and I saw it through, I've been playing it every step of the way and I am very proud of it."

There must have been tons of other games that had ideas that reached final testing stages and got completely wiped to scratch because the publisher was feeling that the final product was a bit lackluster.
I mean, seriously, I understand that developers are too afraid to voice their honest opinions about something they're working on because they are afraid of losing their jobs, but can you honestly say that everyone working on Tony Hawk's RIDE thought of this as being 'the next best thing/EA Skate killer accessory'?! Can you?!!!

Tony was just trying something new. Maybe he didn't execute his plan as he intended but at least he tried.

IT IS NOT NEW IT IS NOT NEW IT IS NOT INNOVATIVE
NOR WAS THE GUITAR PERIPHERAL
but maybe the guitar made it, due to the fact it followed the beat of music, and the fact that you not have to be in an uncomfortable position to play it

For those who aren't sure, play it at a friend's house or rent if there is retailer near you who offers such services, or try a demo at a store kiosk (Although the last one might not happen because it's a lawsuit waiting to happen if someone falls and becomes injured.)

I'm originally from Sudbury, Ontario where this paper is situated, and let me tell you that it's just a small local paper. I have no idea why he'd be talking to them about anything, especially something that has now been picked up by all the major game news sites... odd and cool at the same time..

Ignore those hater Tony, people like you pave the way to innovation. Without risk and trying something new, all we would get is clones of games we already see on the market.
