Tim Sweeney speaks on the free GoW content, Annex |
Ó
Game developer and founder of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney, has spoken up regarding the new content for Gears of War and the fact that it's slated to be released at no charge to gamers. Microsoft "has been pushing back on" Epic Games regarding the release of its content for free. Apparently, Microsoft actually wants Epic to charge for their content.
Sweeney attributes this to the fact that "TheyÂ’re [Microsoft] trying to build this business model around selling additional content for games." Though he stated that this is a good plan, he defended Epic's stand on releasing the new content for free.
I mean there are a lot of good business reasons for releasing free content for a game. First of all you want to increase the player base and keep the game alive and the business reason, right now trade-ins of console games are a big issue. If people hold on to our game longer, or forever because we release more stuff over a time for free than thatÂ’s a good business incentive for us.
He mentioned that they have yet to find a compromise between their marketing strategy and Microsoft's. Well, Sweeney assured that Annex will be free, although they have yet to announce a release date since it's still being certified.

I thought it was being released on the 9th confirmed...?
and F U microsoft ur ruining PC and console industry u and ur stupid ass marketing strategy
apparently gamespot had the date wrong, or actually, gamespot wrongly had A date...lol
but the 9th was wrong, and they never confirmed a date.
well too bad a$$hole if you don't like M$ then screw you.... that's why the internet is how it is... just thanks to M$.
I hope he isn't using windows.....
This is why i didn't buy a 360 and why i will buy a mac.
M$ thinks the future is all about nickel and dime-ing people.
You'll end up paying 200 bucks on your 360 for stuff that PS3 people get for free.
M$ may have started the industry of computers but man are they on their way to F-ing that up.
If you gotta pay 200$ more for a 360 (core 300 + 200 + 500. Or Premium 400 + 200 + 600), then how are u getting features for FREE, if you are paying an extra $200?
i put the "equal sign" in there....now they "plus's"
microsoft are pushing heavily this charge for this charge for that their becoming more and more like Electronic Arts everyday.
but it is important that games developers release free content for their games as a thank you and to keep their games popular so they get a good name in the industry this matters to us consumers.
You're a sad, naive fool if you don't think Sony will charge you for just about everything. Do you know what business is? Probably not.
Have fun with your Mac, which doesn't do anything
actually it's our fault, the used game industry is making a huge amount of money, and the game companies need to find ways for you to buy new games but also keep them by having you buy extra content.
if i buy oblivion for the 360 i'll be less likely to trade it in if i bought shiviering isles or any other expansion.
i have crackdown and i'm bored with it,i'm only keeping it for the extra free content and the halo 3 beta,if it wasn't for that,it'd been gone 2 weeks ago.
BUT once the halo 3 beta is over and the extra content is played out, what's the point?
i'm sure crackdown copies will be stacked up to the celling at most gamestops, but who's going to buy it after halo 3's beta? 2 people for every 25 copies?
who said april 9th? i would guess May since it looks like the slimmest release month.you have spider-man 3 on may 4th and then nothing.
Ok, miscrosoft wants people to sell extra content. If such a thing becomes a trend in video games, soon some game producers will exclude content that should be on the disc and try to sell it to juice us for what we have. This is terrible. I think like downloading free content, it gives me a tingle on satisfaction and it increases the games value. Miscrosoft is a cheap ass scamming corporation.
Talking about microsoft... I am on my third refurbished console and its also faulty, I am sending it back next week because it wont connect with my wireless controller.
was the release date that was posted on gearsofwar.com
i'm surprised more people aren't complaining about how lame it was to tease us with a release date, and then take it back immediately.
