The Xbox 360 Slim unboxed

Ó

Need yourself a closer look at the Xbox 360's new look? Fortunately, the guys at Engadget got themselves one and opened it up for everyone to see.

Engadget hasn't compared the physical specs with the existing 360, but based from first impressions, the unit is just about as heavy as the old 360, but the power adapter is smaller and much lighter. The console itself didn't appear to be making much noise, and the disc tray pops out faster than the original.

The rest, well, you can see for yourself.

Thanks Jetfire007!

But I don't think it's a rip-off. Why would it be? It's a new and improved model mainly targetted at people who don't already have an Xbox 360, and IIRC, it's being offered at exactly the same price.

I find it hilarious how the whole unit is one big fan though.

he said there is no hardware improvments.. sooo whats the point is switching?

The only difference is that it's optimized to improve quality. I doubt this is targeted to people to go "Hey, throw away your old xbox and get this one" They're just tryna get people that don't already have one and waited forever to get one. If I didn't have one already i'd get it asap.

You would be surprised, I work nintendo customer service and there are ton's of ppl who just bought the black wii, cuz it's black.

For those wondering why they did this, I am wondering why they didn't do it sooner(sony and ninty do it all the time)....but the answer is obvious.

The 360 is an in-efficient beast...

They wouldn't even think of a slim model until they got the gpu/cpu down to 45nm. Even then they need to basically make the housing into one huge vent.

Not to mention they still can't have the power supply inside the console.

It sure is shiny though....

There's built in WiFi, and 250gb hard drive, and it's all for $300 (If I remember correctly).

It's totally worth it if you don't already own a 360.

I mean, if the controller was completely flat where the battery compartment currently is, that would be one AMAZING looking controller.

yup, woulda looked sweet if they glossed out the controller like they did the system, though I don't think the grip would be the same =\

I had this conversation with my friend.

He is lazy and just buys duracels. We figured it out and he could have bought a PS3 and at least 2 games with the money he's spent on batteries.

Does it REALLY need 5 usb ports? I rarely use 2 at once..

Honestly I think I'd have rather had even a $10 price cut instead of 2 more usb ports lol.

Have to admit though, I LOVE that they finally added wireless integrated in the system, that makes this upgraded 360 worthwhile.

+1 # RE: ..Jazriel 2010-06-15 18:43
well they did it cause lots of people that have rock band or guitar hero use the usb ports cause not everyone gets the wireless =\ that and like swapping my flash drive without having to unplug something else.

When you get a rockband or guitar hero bundle with wired controllers, there are usb splitters, meaning two controllers work on one console port.

However, the 5 USBs makes sense for people with 4 wired standard Xbox controllers. The extra one can be used to a USB drive seeing as they're now supported.

as opposed to the other $300 dollar system you could submerge underwater, right?

No it doesn't. As a mater of fact, A glass of water was spilled on my PS3 slim, and was fine. (I'm not careless, I have an Autistic little brother) I was just saying, you get any liquid in there, its done for. I'm not saying if you submerge it in water, any electronic would be screwed.

Is it just me, or have they tried to build an xbox 360, based on a PS3? :D

USB door flap is... crap, certain devices don't squeeze into those.

Still a proprietary hard drive, witch sucks.

AND! Last but not least... In fact, probably most, power brick! The system is looking better i think, but it's still reeking of cheepness :/

But a relevant one nevertheless. Looking past the RROD, Microsoft just has a serious streak of bad luck when it comes to these things. I remember Windows 98 giving a BSoD during its original unveiling years ago.

I didn't say that this console is going to RRoD. I just meant that people's concerns are valid and people shouldn't be put down like morons for having them, since the last Xbox was hardly the first time Microsoft released a broken product.

You're a fucking moron. It does have a hi-def cable; it's called component. Sure, it's not digital, but any difference in quality between component and HDMI has been, in my exerience, neglible, if even there at all.

Jealous, this xbox has 802.11 built in router fastest in any console, 250gb hard drive, new sleek design, whisper quiet fan, and software inside xbox always been updated adding ESPN... for the same price what they do for PS3 nothing but remove software for example OS (linux) Ps3 logo, should say ps3 only takes everything, so stop the Hate and Appreciate! Awesome console! (=

this newly redesigned 360 will still red ring in spite of the '2 in 1' cpu & gpu chipset (valhalla). m$ is still using same ol' flawed x-clamp for the chip. if anyhing this 360 will take a bit longer to red ring. yup m$ sure did copy a few things from the PS3.

the PS3 slim is still superior to the 360.
