The quiet Xbox 360: how to tell if you have it

Well, it's pretty simple. And you don't have to void your warranty by opening your console unit. All you have to do is to eject the DVD tray and compare it with the picture above, as provided by the folks at Xbox Scene. Generally, the BenQ VAD6038 is known to be remarkably quieter when reading.

The VAD6038 comes also from Liteon and Philips. But since the Philips version is a developer-exclusive drive, you won't find it in the picture. Of course, even without opening anything, you can always tell if the DVD drive that comes with your unit is quiet. Newer Xbox 360 units are released with the BenQ drive, since they are the current OEM holders for the 360 drives, after the Liteon-Philips team up.

I have a samsung and i dont really notice the sound at all. Sure theres a little bit, but to call it a jet engine is a little blown out of porportion. I also dont find the Hd-DVD to be way to loud. Sure its a physical device, so it makes noise. But after the sound kicks in, i dont even notice much sound from either drive. Ill agree that the 360 hd-dvd drive is louder than my toshiba HD-A1. But it doesnt effect my viewing or playing experince. My 360 sits in my component rack, so maybe its getting muffled a bit? But seriously, i really think this is a moot point.

Er the MOVIE ???? the 360 drive you dont hear spinning in Movies or movie sections as the high speed loading is not needed so it slows down to around the same speed of the clanky Blu Ray drive.

I notice PS3 fanboy up their posted about the sound when watching a movie or move section, hmm I bet he really knows full well the 360 cleverly slows down to the same slow 2 speed that the Blu Ray is only capable at best.

Im glad you cant modify it, the 360 has the best devs working on it, this is because most 360 owners buy their games and it sells huge amounts of games which rewards good devs,Gears of war is an example that 360 owners pay for good games and the quality of Xboxlive this is what is going to keep it at the top of next gen consoles.

u get used to it!

when ur playing a breathtaking game like gears or lost planet u dont even notice anything.

its pretty normal for the xbox 360 to make some noise as it displays beautiful graphics.

im sure all of you agree.
