Ten Most Wanted Halo 3 Features

People Want Flying Transports!Since a Halo movie is in production, and people are eagerly waiting for word from either Bungie or Microsoft about the status of the next installment in the Halo series, we're posting something that we think will help ease the wait for eager 360 fans.

The folks at Podtacular posted a list of things their users want to see show up on the next Halo 3.
  • Armor that takes visible damage. If they could do it on cars in racing games, why not for shooters? Heck they're already featuring destroyable environments in other contemporary games.
  • Dynamic weather and daylight. For another way to customize a level and make it interesting, many people suggested having the option for weather such as snow, rain, or fog on a level to change the feel. Also having different times of day or night would change the whole look and obviously impact gameplay in a positive manner. Having to wait until cover of dark does add a tactical twist to things, especially if they add in time constraints to team-based play.
  • More interactive and destructible maps. Do we really need to explain why people want this feature added?
  • A survival mode. A gameplay mode where you have to see how long you can survive while waves and waves of Covenant are sent in to try and take you out. When Ninety-Nine Nights meets First Person Shooting.
  • Usable Jackal shield.
  • More playable characters. According to the books, not all the Spartans bought the farm, so why not introduce more of them? Alternate versions of them? Spartans in differently designed armor?
  • A map editor. Games like Far Cry: Instincts already have this feature on the Xbox. Why not Halo 3? Bungie could make money out of this if they allowed players to share maps they made online. It definitely invites some of the creatives in the mod scene.
  • Online cooperative play. Deathmatches can get tiresome after a while. Many would prefer for the difficulty to be hiked up somehow to accommodate for an extra soldier on the battlefield.
  • A flyable Pelican. The reason people want this is because of the need for a viable troop transport vehicle where you can send in an overwhelming force of foot soldiers. That is, if you can get them there of course. This is where balance comes in; debate is quite heated as to how many rockets it should take to bring one down. Regardless, people want a flying transport!
  • Bots. Love bots, or hate bots, but tons of people want to see bots as an option in Halo 3 multiplayer. Admit it, bots are very useful training dummies. It can help you hone your killing skills without fear getting yelled at by your teammates. The best way to avoid people screaming "n00b" at you is to train, train, and train some more.
The TGS and the X06 conventions are just around the corner, if Bungie or Microsoft spill anything, trust that we'll immediately inform you guys.

You can probably expect most of those to be in (tho a flyable Pelican may not show up, and a jackal shield and survival mode are questionable), but I wouldn't count on a map editor. It just isn't Halo, not console Halo anyway.

Far Cry is alot less complex compared to Halo. The only thing you have to worry about in a map editor in far cry is land, trees, huts, vehicles, guns, and maybe a little more. Halo levels have all kinds of buildings, scenery, and all kinds of ***** going on. To reproduce that in a useable map editor for the consumer would be crazy. If they some how could pull that off, Great! But I am not even going to think twice that it will be there.

For the most part you can really only create an open field with objects in Far Cry... well, you can make mountains and crap, but whatever. The good Halo maps have tons of buildings (Lockout, any good map from Halo 1), walkways/stairs/ramps, and Covenant architecture (Midship), which would be nearly impossible to do in a map editor.

Apparently, they are trying to pull that off for Halo 2 Vista, but I don't know if it will be similar to Far Cry's (where you can only place objects and stuff) or if it will let you place entire buildings and pieces of scenery. Either way, that'd still be hard to do on a console, the precision of a PC is needed.

I'd like to see MS and Bungie release software exactly like Epic did with unreal tournament series. They gave you unreal ED wich you can do crazy amounts of stuff with. If they had tools to give us with halo 2 for vista, count me in. otherwise I'll just stick to the console.

I would love to see most of these features included in Halo 3, but I can live without the map editor, would be to confusing/time comsuming/space consuming, the maps that are already included are awesome. I would most like the time of day and weather additions the most.

It would be pretty slick to be able to play all the levels in different times of day. I think a Night game while raining would be damn cool. I sure hope they do this feature

and if they could pull it off it would bring the game up leaps and bounds. Personally the map editor would be the biggest improvement I think. Yes, it is incredibly time consuming to create a balanced map everyone can enjoy but it's very satisfying to hear everyone rave about them. They can still include the premade maps and even release future maps but the map editor would add untold replayability to the game. Don't get me wrong, I love Halo(the first moreso than the second) but we've played them so much that it's almost become unfun. Relax, I said almost. With Bungie's team I'm sure they could have some pretty complex premade buildings to drop in the maps so I wouldn't be worried there. Aside from that ALL the improvements mentioned would make an already awesome game amazing. The only thing that REALLY concerns me is that I haven't heard anything about system linking...has anyone else noticed that very few 360 games released so far are system link compatible?Chromehounds and Lord of the Rings BFME2 seemed like pretty good canidates for it...but nope. I guess we'll just have to see how it all plays out

I could do with out the survival mode and the bots. Something else I would like to see would be like a melee only weapon. The sword was cool but not enough. Since it looks like he's on earth again, almost anything could be a melee weapon.

I think Bungie may do some of those things, but no bots. Bots in games are bad. I think they should do the map editor and i think they will since they are making one for Halo 2 Vista...
