Infectus 2 - Image 1Those who feel the need to install modchips in their Xbox 360 consoles - despite the fact that it obviously violates the law AND may get you completely banned from Xbox Live - may want to check this out. The newest version of the Team InFeCtuS is about to launch the newest incarnation of their InFeCtuS modchip, InFeCtuS2.

Firmware for InFeCtuS2 can be uploaded and installed into InFeCtuS1 modchips by way of manually installing the LEDs. Team InFeCtuS will release tutorials on how to do so in the near future.

The targetted launch date of InFeCtuS2 is on December 2, but the team will try to yank the launch onto an earlier date. They already opened preorders for the modchip, if you are interested in getting one yourself.

InFeCtuS2 features an external PCB connected to the main modchip via a flat cable. This external PCB also has a mini USB connector with two micro switches for bank selection, and also has LED indicators.

Once again, do be warned: not only is this not recommended, this may also get you completely banhammered away from Xbox Live - which will totally ruin most part of the fun of owning an Xbox 360.

» Just to let you know...

Most of the fun of owning a 360 doesn't come through online. Unless you think it's fun to have to pay $50 a year for what can be given for free.

Most of the fun comes through playing games, which this will still allow unless you botch up the installation.

And if it violates the law, why help people violate the law by telling them? if i never saw this article, i would have had no idea the infectus modchip even existed.

Modchips aren't illegal in all countries of the world. So it not a device for violating the law, but opening your 360 and modding it does violate Microsoft TOS and therefore voids your warranty and could possibility result in a XBL ban if you take your console online. The main function of this chip is to help run Linux/Homebrew on the 360 without restriction. Installing Linux requires you roll back to an older 360 kernel version and therefore makes it impossible to access XBL.

I'll probably always leave my 360 alone, but don't these modchips allow you to convert your 360 back to the way it was without too much hassle? Isn't piracy just a matter of modifying the DVD firmware or is this something for the actual console firmware?

if i am violating any terms of service. will micro$oft give me back my money before i do open it?

i mean to say if micro$oft doesn't want me to hack or mod my 360, then they should give me back all the money i spent on it right? i really dont want it if i cant do what i want to it, besides i never signed a damn thing. just because i bought it doesnt mean i agreed to anything.

I WANT MY MONEY BACK MICRO$OFT. besides i believe they made the 360 crappy on purpose, so they can check to see who is doing what. your xbox WILL break down eventually, and thats the way they want it. you WILL have to send it in.

i got the red light while playing saints row one night. but after i unplugged it, it came back to life.

DAMN, EVERYBODY I KNOW WHO HAS A 360 HAS PROBLEMS (scracthed disks, red lights). micro$oft isn't losing a dime, because they probably paid those mexicans less than 5 dollars a day, instead of giveing jobs to AMERICANS WHO REALLY NEED THE JOBS.
