Zuma - Image 1When Square Enix and PopCap Games combined their strengths to create a new game, the result was Gyromancer. The puzzle RPG was announced in TGS 2009 back in September and redefined the tried, tested, and often cloned Bejeweled. But what we didn't know was that there were other games on that negotiating table - among them, Zuma and Peggle.

“We had confirmed that some sort of puzzle system would be utilized as the base, but it took a while to decide which one exactly to go with," said the Gyromancer Team to Siliconera. "The intention for this game had always been to have a single-player focus, so instead of going for a versus-styled interface, we wanted something that would make the enemy-ally positioning very clear,” they added.

Those familiar with PopCap Games and their addictive puzzle games would know that the publisher has more up its sleeve. “With this mindset, PopCap games like Zuma and Peggle were actually brought up as candidates," the team said, until they decided on using Bejeweled Twist.

Siliconera's promising more about the Square Enix-PopCap collaboration later this week, so we'll learn more then. For next week, Gyromancer is launching on Xbox Live and Steam.
