Spring Update: Xbox 360 to tell you what's in the tray?

Wouldn't you want to know what's in me? - Image 1

In an interview podcast with Xbox 360 Fanboy, Major Nelson dropped a few hints of what Microsoft's regular Spring cleaning (well, Spring Update) will bring. He says that there'll be (at least) one new dash feature, one "simple thing" he's been asking the engineers for "since launch." That's it: that's the hint.

So that left 360 Fanboy in a Nancy Drew mood. Doing a little digging and back-checking, their guess is that the new feature being hinted at, the one the Major wants so badly since launch, is for the Xbox 360 to tell you what disc in its tray. That "Play Game" label will change to "Play: (Insert game here)" or something like that, or so the theory goes. Of course, it's just a theory (360 Fanboy puts odds at 84.7% of it happening).

whoop-dee-fuc.king-doo!

who cares? I know what game is in my system because i put it there. I dont care if either my PS3 or my 360 does this. Sony: give me more downloadable content. MS: give me a reliable console. thats all i ask.

so what.....

big woop. from what ive been reading in avs forums, we wont get one of the biggest wishes either; 16:10 modes at 1680x1050. Which is utter crap. Just go and look at xbox.com forums wish list posting and you'll see nearly every person with that wish. Once again Micro$haft....thanks for listening to the masses, we appreciate all you dont do. ,,/,,

DVD scaler?

Maybe it'll finally use the 360's hardware scaler and upscale DVDs to 1080?
by - 2007-04-04 00:41:32
Me2

I sure hope its a browser.

1080p

As long as they sort out the issues with the Sony 46X2000 not accepting 1080P via the VGA lead I'll be a happy man.

This a the logical next step to the boot to dash option

However, I'd really like to see a better designed dash that makes more use of my HDTV. They can keep this ild design for peeps still viewing in SD, but I want smaller text, better menu items and more pictures.

...

Some early screen shots of the 360 dashboard, shows what's in the disc drive. Not making this up, I know I've seen it before.

re

I'd like to see the 360 scaler upscaling DVDs through my HDDVD player, but I'd be happy if they fixed the issues with Children of Men not playing on 360s

.

Yeah, that's it...don't give us better information on downloadable content (picture packs/themes)...tell us what we have in the CD tray. Yeah, that's it. "HEY Microsoft! I want *you* to tell me what game I just put in the damn console, because I don't know!" /stupid
by Mister Common Sense - 2007-04-04 05:26:40
always had it

It already does, fool. You have to use a VGA cable or you can use the HDMI on the elite. DVD protocols do not allow DVD upscaling over component for some reason.
by Mister Common Sense - 2007-04-04 05:35:33
nothing MS can do about that

That's sony's decision. They likely did it to "prove" you need HDMI. Most TVs I've seen support 1080p through VGA, and some support it through component as well.

1080p

It's to do with the xbox (sync on green issues I think). P.C. works fine through it.

DUDE

maybe it will give off heat like the ps3 so i wont have to use my house heater anymore! yes! besides i can see whats in the drive already. costs like $20 to have a window and dvd window.

STORE VIDEOSS!!

i just want xbox 360 to store videos from a disc on hardrive n import music from a removeable disc to the hardrive
by - 2007-04-04 14:59:41
Mister Zero Sense

I'm not talking about that, fool. It already PLAYS up to 1080i, so why not upscale DVDs through component?
by - 2007-04-04 17:24:10
!!!!1

I really hope that they and something to make saving music on the 360 easier
by - 2007-04-04 18:36:06

by - 2007-04-11 20:38:25
