While there has still been no confirmation on whether or not the new black Xbox 360 is an actual upcoming product from Microsoft or nothing but an elaborate April Fool's prank, the folks at Engadget did get their hands on some juicy info regarding the mysterious console.Here's the pertinent info on the console, dubbed the Xbox 360 Elite, as reported by Engadget:
- The Elite will be limited quantities only; that may be as much or as little as a couple hundred thousand.
- The case, controller, and Live headset will all be black. It will have all new packaging.
- Elite will cost $479, and will be a 3rd SKU; it will be sold alongside Premium and Core packs.
- Eventually Elite hardware (in white plastics) will take the role of the Xbox Premium. That is to say, after the Elite is launched and sold out, future Xbox Premiums will have 120GB / HDMI.
- We do not yet know exactly when 120GB / HDMI will become the standard for Premium, but it is loosely estimated to be late summer or fall.
- Elite models run cooler than normal 360s, but they are not yet confirmed to have 65nm chips.
- Prices may remain the same with the 120GB / HDMI hardware upgrade in the Premium Xbox, but we may still see a price cut on the line when 65nm chips start shipping.
- The HD DVD drive will not be internal or bundled -- Microsoft never did or nor does not currently have plans to put an HD DVD drive in the 360.
- There are no current plans to integrate WiFi into the Elite or future Premiums (although that can always change).

As much as I would like One, reading the above tells me this is not true at all, why on earth would MS only make Two Hundred thousand that would make no sense whatsoever?, so I think the news above is defnitly false therefore pointless.

That's exactly the definition of "limited quantities." I think someone needs to take a reading comprehension class. The article goes on to state that after the limited edition black ones sell, MS will be replacing the premium system with white 120GB/HDMI 360's. That means that the *limited* number will only apply to the black systems. The white 120GB/HDMI systems that will be on sale later in the year will not be limited. Of course, this assumes the rumors from engadget are true.
Why doesnt MS keep makin the black ones in small amounts.. I do plan on gettin one of these babies but not in april or whenever it is those consoles get released. I can careless about a white 120 gig/hdmi 360. And i hope Market the 120 gig hard drive as a seperate product so some of us with the current premiums can upgrade if we want. Nice post btw..

Has no high def player! now that sucks!!!! I prefer the Xbox 360 (gears, halo, live... ext) but at this price I would even buy a PS3. Why does MS not just make an xbox box with everything (wi-fi, hd player, hdmi, big harddrive... ext) and sell it for the same price as a PS3. I think there are many people out there (like me) that would still buy and Xbox 360 over an PS3. Or am I sitting the pot mis????

It makes sense for them to launch this, especially with movie marketplace and IPTV comming up....buuut, you can alway use external USB HDD's for movies, and yeah, if a mag has the info and is given the ok to release it, usually the company will also have some sort of statement...

I wish i could have the black 360.. just cause appearance wise, i think black is sleeker for sure.. although i dont wanna pay a higher price tag for it.. probably better off buying a case mod!

Completely bogus. I don't doubt the validity of the new improved model but I do doubt the article. Specs and pricing and release date are all bogus.
Still I find it reasonable that we'll see something similar from Microsoft soon. I'd guess they're waiting until E3 to announce something now. Or is there another big game show coming before E3...not that E3 is big anymore...
mostly because of the movies and tv shows being introduced on the market place, it would make more sense for them to just release the larger HD and not a totally upgraded system with a lager HD in a limited amount because obviously everyone would want a larger HD but not everyone can afford to buy a brand new 360 just for the larger HD.
This rumor is MONTHS OLD! This came about in the summer. I think thats a LITTLE TOO OLD to be a fĂșcking April Fool's day joke.

I am not sure if its real or fake but all i do know is. My rep from Microsoft came in the store and was upset they he heard a customer talking about the new xbox coming out with hdmi and bigger hd. He said its not true and its fake. Heres the part that bothers me after all that he said i can't order you a new demo unit if it goes out because they are changing. (wtf does that mean changing the demo). I guess we will see next month if its true. I am hoping for the 120gb hd at least.
The whole "Zephyr" rumor is years old, yes, but this whole black case thing and exact price and exactly what it includes have only been reported in the APRIL issue of Game Informer so far. Still looking like it could be Game Informer's April Fools joke, but I thought jokes were supposed to be funny... So we'll see when Microsoft says something besides "no comment"
ive just got an 360 for xmas and im gonna be pissed if they dont let us trade in our old system for full price so we can get the elite and they bettter give us some free memory cards so we can move our game saves and profiles over

In my opinion microsoft might be feeling pressured by the PS3. Why come out with a upgraded system? It stills falls short in comparison to the PS3 as far as the capabilities. Still no HD drive and wi-fi. I'm not sure but no HDMI 1.3 either. They might as well included all these things. I think they didn't becuase they knew if they did the price would be near or surpass the cost of a 60gb PS3. Also it would confirm the heat they are feeling from the PS3. What else could it be?
