Sneak preview: Foundation 9/The Collective's Harker |
Ó
When Foundation 9's The Collective revealed to 1UP a preview of their newest IP, the survival-horror Harker, four words sprang in their minds: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the licensed video game they also made). Plus two from us: "on steroids." Yes, like the Slayer, Harker's all about ghoul population control the hard way: with stake, cross, and a godhandfull of other weaponry, apparently medieval in construction.
The "on steroids" part we decided to add when we discovered that unlike the Buffy vamps, the unholy creatures of Harker simply refuse to die quietly. Vampires and the other ghouls won't simply stand around waiting to die, says senior producer Nigel Cook. No. They will dynamically heal. They will pull crossbow bolts out of their rotting corpses. This will NOT be a quick kill game. You really have to drive that stake in.
And if the undead die hard in this title, Harker unfortunately is going to have to fight harder. He'll have to get in up close and personal with the baddies: sink his fists into their putrid flesh, tear their banshee hair out. There will be "intense, personal" struggles between Harker and his opponent/s. Really personal. More from Cook:
This isn't about fighting hordes or big battles, Lord of the Rings style... Our game really focuses on making killing and pain personal, taking the ultimate revenge and vengeance against vampires by ripping off arms, breaking legs, gouging out eyes, opening up rib cages and ramming dynamite inside.
Many elements of Harker are yet to be locked down, says 1UP, and they're still looking for a publisher. But they note that what they've seen looks promising. See 1UP's preview screenshots, exclusive preview and interview with Nigel Cook below, courtesy of their sister site GameVideos. Now if you'll excuse me, I must set a date with Buffy tonight...
