Sky Player on XBL - Image 1As soon as it came out, so it was pulled back in. The much-awaited launch of the Sky TV service on Xbox Live encountered some major snafu, forcing Microsoft to pull the service a short while after its launch. The reason: "unforeseen technical issue."

Not even a day after it was officially launched, the program has been suspended, and will hopefully have a better re-launch come tomorrow. Said Microsoft in an official statement:

The Sky Player on Xbox 360 service did successfully launch early this morning [10AM], it has subsequently been suspended due to an unforeseen technical issue. With so much excitement and interest in the service, we'd much prefer to ensure that our customers enjoy the highest possible quality of service.

We would like to take this opportunity to apologize to our customers who have attempted to access the service today. Sky Player engineers are hard at work to resolve the problem - we expect to have the full service available tomorrow.

The Sky Player will allow users to watch live TV channels as well as content on-demand.

Anyone remember those 360 fanboys saying they had a console made to play games and all that multimedia stuff was un-needed?

all the pro 360 over ps3 arguments are dead. some have even turned out for the worse, ie: you pay an annual fee for a-soon-to-be practically exactly the same service you could get for free on the ps3

» Hmm....

I think i know what happened...Probably a overload on there servers...Or the service was more bandwidth costly than they imagined...

» Power consumption

A normal sky hd box consumes 39 watts of electricity when watching stuff. Hmm the xbox sure seems like a cost effective way to replace that. i mean you cant jsut buy another sky box for next to nothing can you?

and on the cost issue, you still need a sky subscription for this to work. Ive been using it for a while now thru the website.
