Soon there will be TV. Sky's online TV service, Sky Player will soon be making its official debut on Microsoft's Xbox Live in late October.

Graeme Boyd, Microsoft Europe's Xbox community manager announced via tweet the official launch of the service: "October 27 - that's the date when you'll be able to watch TV from Sky on your Xbox 360."

The Sky Service on XBL will allow viewers to watch a wide range of channels and programs via their consoles. However, the content to be offered initially will be in SD only, and won't be recordable.

Soon fanboys will use this as argument....

"Bu...Bu... But the 360 haz Sky TV!!!" Well, at least you can watch TV over the 360, the US still hasn't got a version of PlayTV. If they really bring PlayTV over to the US, I assume they are going to use ATSC.

..

Well, at least this is a "real" feature, as you PS3 fanboys were complaining about the useless features that are Twitter, Facebook and Last.fm. So keep on wishin' for that cross-game chat!

If you rated me as PS3 fanboy, your totally wrong. I assume you just read my first sentence and then stopped thinking and reading. if you did read the other part you would have noticed that I actually complained about a lacking feature for PS3 users in the US. and yeah, Twitter, facebook and last.fm "are" useless features, since a full web browser would be much better. The PS3 could access this pages for ages. And before you start calling em PS3 fanboy again, listen. I even think the 360 could a better webbrowser then the PS3, because the 360 can use the full 512 MB Ram for the webbrowser. The PS3 can only use 256 MB Ram for the browser since the VRAM isn't used for it. PS: You should read that QJ article. you might find that interesting if you think Cross-game chat will always be exclusive to Xbox 360: http://www.qj.net/Cross-game-chat-confirmed-for-next-PS3-firmware-update-/pg/49/aid/135240

But.....

Sky isnt free. It requires you to pay for the subscription. And if they made this software based, they will essentially be funding information to another sector of hacking. The Sky TV hack team. Cause encryption keys that they use for the content has to be shared with the console for it to be viewable. Cant wait :D BTW im not a 360 fanboy I dont even own one. Im more biased to PS3 actually.

Yeah, and if I were to, say, complain about the lack of Blu-Ray support on the 360, it doesn't necessarily mean that I'm not a 360 fanboy, right? Come on, you're clearly a PS3 fanboy. Get over it. You're more biased to the PS3 and I completely understand that. Oh yeah, I did read the article about cross-game chat for PS3. I assume you don't know what a question mark is. As long as hasn't been fully confirmed, no matter how many developers "accidentally" leak the "secret" info it's not 100% certain to come out in the next firmware update. However, that's exactly why I said that you should keep wishing for it, since now it's closer than ever to become an actual feature. Over and out.

PS3 FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those that are wondering, yes i am a ps3 fan. Anyways, this feature is kinda dumb cause all i have to do is turn off the 360 and change the channel.

at least

MS is trying to add (useless?)features to the 360. What new features did sony add to the ps3 past years? IMO dynamic themes are far more useless than sky tv or radio.

This is awesome!!!! /sarcasm

The only conceivable use I could think of for this is just to help make the wait till November 10/24th more bearable. Other than that, yet another completely useless update and feature from M$. Just like all that extra crap that came with NXE than 70% of the hardcore Live Gold users never use.
