RIP 360 - Image 1This story is a classic example why anyone shouldn't submerge live wires under water. A 14 year old teenager from Brevard, North Carolina was found unconscious after a futile attempt to save his Xbox 360.

His mom was around to see him having troubles with the Microsoft next-gen console, claiming it turns off after every 5 minutes. When she left to visit neighbors next door, the young guy found suggestions online on how to fix his suffering box. He then wrapped the power supply with plastic, dropped it to a pan of water, before knocking himself unconscious.

“When I left to go next door he was playing a game but when I got back he was laying on his back on the floor and unconscious,” the boy's mother said.

Fortunately, he recovered even before the paramedics arrived. Poor guy didn't get to play after all, and was left contemplating in the Transylvania Community Hospital. As for the image to the right, well, the Xbox 360 wasn't as fortunate as the boy.

Possible

Somewhat likely, but I think that I'm smelling a law suit on Microsofts way.

hahahahahahah singing* what is love baby dont hurt me, dont hurt me no more......

MS come clean until somebody dies. SIKE!!! no matter if a 360 burned down a hospital/ homeless center/orphange/ sperm donor multiplex they still wouldnt give a F*CK.

by Devise - 2007-08-21 17:37
...

I stuck a knife in a power point when I was 5. How someone at 14 years of age could do something stupider than that is beyond me.

by Devise - 2007-08-21 17:40
...

Eh, no.

"He then wrapped the power supply with plastic, dropped it to a pan of water, before knocking himself unconscious."

The case would get laughed out of court.

by Mister Common Sense - 2007-08-22 00:02

Yeah it's a lot smarter to do that to fix your XBOX than send it back.....

by R Kelly - 2007-08-22 01:50
problem solved

apparently he wasnt the sharpest tool in the shed.. but with the massive brain cell lose he received he awoke speaking the praises of Blu-ray technology... he has to go to a special school that has padded corners on all of the sharp corners but he is very happy with his ps3. a happy ending

by i dunno - 2007-08-22 01:51
OKAaaaaaaaaaY

Wouldn't that be more of the electricity's fault? I think I smell a lawsuit coming to Dominion Power Company!

You idiot!

I hear car companies are going to be sued for making things that can kill other people (as in when you run over them).

Also in the news (i guess in your insane world), your Mom is sueing Black + Decker for creating a saw that cut off your f*cking finger!

I HATE STUPID PEOPLE!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!

by Instint - 2007-08-22 02:20
Transylvania Community Hospital eh?

kill yourself

massive fail at life

by StickyGears - 2007-08-22 06:49
"How is this even vaguely Microsoft's fault?"

Well, the public eye would be quick to note that MS has some serious hardware failures and that consumers have to go above and beyond to try and correct it themselves. Being that the hardware is also marketed to children you could easily see why this is a growing problem and very well could result in a lawsuit on part of MS' neglect.

by spyder52 - 2007-08-22 07:26
Just shows that PS3's are better

PS3 rule

by danny - 2007-08-22 07:42
;L

whawt a shame, even if i tried to silicon the bag-up, more than likely it would still leak ...

by i dunno - 2007-08-22 08:04
Response to StickyGears

That's like saying if a certain car's starter is known to be faulty, it would be the car manufacturers problem if someone pushed it down a hill to use it and couldn't stop the car because they had no power breaks.

Or, the solution to using the newer electronics that run hot is to use the electronic device under water to keep it cool, could you really blame the electronics manufacturer?

"Well your honor, my clients hair dryer overheated and would not turn on, so he filled up the sink and dropped it in to cool it off. Who would have thunk that doing something like that was a bad idea? So we are sueing Vidal Sasoon for making a hair dryer that got too hot."

I don't think so, not even close. If you could sue a company for your own stupidity, this country would be full of stupid rich people while all the smart people would be broke. Nothing would ever get invented or done, and our society as we know it would collapse.

by na2rul - 2007-08-22 08:12
the boy was dumb to som extent but more naive

but 360 owners were probably dumb as well, if not dumber.

Y? Coz they were the 1s to even come up with the idea hence the website the boy used to seek advice for.

giv the boy a break, he didnt come up wit the idea

by R Kelly - 2007-08-22 09:40
dumb idea

just because you read something on the internet does not make it true... can you imagine there are actually sites out there that just post bs to get their post count up.

by i dunno - 2007-08-22 09:56
Who you calling stupid

Are you kidding me?

It wasn't suggested to dump the power source in water while using the xbox360! He read that the issue with the 360s not working is related to overheating. So he thought, water will cool it. Do you honestly believe that anyone would put a serious suggestion to dump the 360's powersource in water to keep it cool.

Use your head, man.

Listen up QJ bloggers

Please make a stupidpeople.qj.net or something. What does this have to do with upcoming games? I don't care if the stupid 14 year old teenager tried knocked himself (how sad is that?) out. Please QJ bloggers stop posting random stuff just to get paid.

by Mister Common Sense - 2007-08-22 10:40
Xbox Owners are stupid

This means Xbox 360 owners are stupid. Atleast you PS3 owners are smart.

by GW2 - 2007-08-22 11:18
you do know that wouldnt shock you right?

you wouldnt get hurt at all you can stick anything in a socket and you wont get shocked. you need to complete the cicuit but sticking something in both sides.

by asdf - 2007-08-22 11:24
better save ur $

go get a ps3 dumb*****

by wow - 2007-08-22 12:05
stupid people

and you do know that anything touching ground and a live line will shock you. 2 pronged outlets have no ground while 3 prong supplies its own ground. anything touching one of the longer holes in either outlet would shock you if you are touching ground.

by Smokydoggg - 2007-08-22 12:08
Nuff said

Nuff said.

I mean he was retarded enough to buy an Xbox 360 in the first place... What do you expect? this doesn't surprise me at all.

by Spectre - 2007-08-22 12:37
ROFL

i dunno, you must be blind. Dumb ass people sue smart people all the time and win. People take advantage of the loopholes we have in the law, and we all are going down as a nation. Remember McDonalds and the fat kid? What about Sony and the company who "made" the rumble technology? How about Apple getting sued for "copying" the onscreen keyboard for their iPhone? I can't wait to hear about how a vibrator's going to shock someone for misappropriate use. PWNT

by Spectre - 2007-08-22 12:42
LOL

How funny. You bag on Americans but at the same time, you only wish your nation would have the same power and respect that our nation holds. Not only that, "The American black man is the most copied man on the face of this earth." -Paul Mooney

by Spectre - 2007-08-22 12:48
LOL

Just because you have that kind of "common sense" doesn't mean the majority of XBlowx711 community has the same kind of "knowledge". No doubt, he went to an XBlowx711 site and asked for help and he got it form the XBlowx711 community. SO, he was resourceful to a certain extent and did what he felt was the right thing in his head. At the age of 14, he is smart enough to do so. LOL, the end result only proves that majority of XBlowx711 gamers are indeed kids who have a lack of "common knowledge". Thank god those "Proud American" kids haven't messed the PS3 scene, which is comprised of mostly "mature gamers". LMAO

by Spectre - 2007-08-22 12:53
HAHAHAHA

Well...the PS3 is developed and manufactured in Japan. The XBlowx711 was developed in the US and manufactured in China. ROFL, it was only a matter of time, noobs.

by Mister Common Sense - 2007-08-22 23:42
wha?

So I'm both smart and stupid?

Do they cancel each other out?

by Mister Common Sense - 2007-08-22 23:48
no

only the "hot" wire will shock you. The neutral and ground will not, because they're connected to each other at the breaker panel. In the US, the narrow slot is the hot. You do not have to complete the circuit totally to feel a shock.

Don't bother arguing with me. I do this for a living.

by BrendanL - 2007-08-23 02:35
Replying to I dunno...

You said, "Who would have thunk that doing something like that was a bad idea?" Man, thunk is not a word! :)

by Stealth! - 2007-08-23 03:51
Hey guys

The person who got unconscious was MCS its true, he finally got RRoD haha.

by Mister Common Sense - 2007-08-23 05:49
whatever....

I work with 480 volts at my job, sometimes more.

Water doesn't cool electronics, airflow does (unless it's some kind of special application designed for it and completely sealed.) A taped up bag isn't completely sealed.

When working on electronics, you cut off the power.

He didn't even have the RROD.

It's just common sense.

As an advocate of common sense, I'm against what this dumbass did, and I think it's pretty halarious.

by Jego - 2007-08-23 13:37
To StickyGears

So if my Bosch Alternator in my car broke again i should file a lawsuit against Volkswagen? Hmm so if my tires got slashed again i should file a lawsuit against Volkswagen? I dont see the sense.

by yepq - 2007-08-29 05:00
yep

you can stick a ps3 in water and it won't shock you...haha
