Shareholders bought Bungie from Microsoft?

Master Chief lives? - Image 1Microsoft's denial failed to silence the rumor that Bungie Studios is going independent. According to Game Informer, yet another source "close to Bungie" made a statement about the separation. Aside from stating the same reason we heard before that Bungie Studios doesn't want to work on the series ended by Halo 3 anymore, the source also revealed how Bungie was set free.

Why should Microsoft take the risk of losing the developers that pretty much gave Xbox its name, you ask? Well, it looks like shareholders had enough money to get Bungie off its owner's hands. Here's what the source told Game Informer:

For an unstated, but significant amount of money, Bungie shareholders bought the studio name back from Microsoft. Our source also revealed that even though Microsoft will retain the rights to Halo, Microsoft also has "the right of first refusal" on future games.

Apparently, the fight is not finished yet. If rumors are true and Bungie already left Microsoft, Bungie may have the freedom to develop other games, but Microsoft can still publish Bungie titles and even ask for another Halo.

Word has it that the creators of Master Chief and his epic trilogy are already working on something, so it could either be the next big thing without Microsoft's backing, or as you would've guessed, an entry to the Halo franchise.

Oh I hope to God that Bungie revives Oni.

Oni is Bungies favorite videogame character that they have ever wanted to finish the series, they were supposed to make Oni 2 but Microsoft bought them and NO ITS NOT ONIMUSHA! I am talking about one of the most amazing anime type games they have ever made with a purple haired babe. Anyway the series is owned by Rockstar and I think if Rockstar is a shareholder, they probably bought Bungie from Microsoft cause Bungie was with them before Microsoft and they created Oni. Oh yeah and if you wanna know the main character to the series, shes the chick on alot of the Bungie employees shirts in the Halo 2 developer thingy or whatever. Oni ended with a stupid cliff hanger and Bungie was supposed to tell us some more with Oni 2 but that was when Microsoft bought them.

lol

Looks like halo 3 is going multi-platform now. Bungie better fix the flaws first before it hits PS3 and Wii.

aa

what is with all the retard comments, im not even a fanboi of any type and i find this lowmineded crap annoying, just shut up and be glad bungie might actually make a good game that isnt halo like they used to! well see, about oni, that game had a LOT of potential, i think the concepts should be carried on but put it under a new title/story to get away from the old name
by Stealth! - 2007-10-04 21:31:10
Um

Im not saying its going to happen but i don't think halo 3 should be on the PS3. If any halo game should ever come to the PS3 it should be a new game or series.

uhhhh

Microsoft owns the halo FRANCHISE anyway prob fake Microsoft wouldn't sell off their biggest money maker
by _F1 - 2007-10-05 04:00:34
No

You're an idiot. MS still owns the rights to the game regardless of whether Bungie is independent or not.
