Saints RowShowing just how effective the use of the Xbox Live Marketplace is in distributing pre-release demos of Xbox 360 games, THQ has revealed that the recently released Saints Row demo was downloaded 350,000 times during its first week online. With such impressive numbers, we can say that THQ's massive media marketing blitz was successful.

"We've put significant resources behind the Saints Row marketing campaign, generating tremendous buzz with creative grass roots efforts and the strategic timing of pre-release content," said THQ's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, Bob Aniello.

"Our multi-million dollar advertising campaign will continue to fuel anticipation in the weeks leading up to launch and we believe extensive plans for post-launch downloadable content will further establish it as a must-have title this holiday season," he added.

So far, downloadable pre-release demos for Xbox 360 games has been very successful, with Fight Night Round 3 said to have enjoyed a 40 percent demo-to-purchase conversion rate following the release of its demo. Meanwhile, the Dead Rising demo is currently one of the ten most popular activities among 360 owners with Live connectivity - with strong US sales pushing the full game to second in the same list behind Call of Duty 2.

With all these big numbers showing up, maybe it's not too farfetched to imagine that full versions of new games will be released and made available on the Marketplace in the near future.

I bet it would have have 300k downloads with no media blitz.

The game is radical, everyone wants GTA on 360, its not THAT good but, hey we will take what we can get, the audiance is huge. I bet 90% of the dowloads would have happened regardless of any media frenzy they claim. They just spent millions and tried to claim the games success from their efforts. Get a clue you morons, Guns, Pimps, Cars, and the ablitiy to run peds over on the sidewalk and you have a guaranteed million copies sold no matter what. Its a great demo lots of fun and I can't wait to buy the game on day one because I am a huge game fan. I must say though that the driving is not as fun as in gta, but the shooting is better. I like gta for the driving so its kind of a disapointment to be driving around with a Driv3r type engine. Its kind of chunk a riffic if you know what. Go buy it though and every other game that ever comes out of the MicroSuck IV drip system. Notice how cloning clyde and pac man stay on arcade for extra weeks cuz they didnt sell crap because they suck so bad? The feed us slowly and control what you buy with their evil ways. MS is the devil, I can't wait for Wii and PS3.

Meh

The game isn't that good. I think the only reason the game got a lot of downloads was because people wanted to see if it was as good as GTA, that's what I did. I don't even think this game is as good as GTA. The only game that came close to GTA in my opinion was Ture Crimes: Streets of LA. I don't think I'm gonna be picking this game up. Looks like I'll have to wait for GTA4. Good thing GTA:VCS is coming out on October.

The games awful. You cant even walk into a church without the framerate dropping to about 10-15fps nevermind the rest. Melee combat is quite good, the rest is just pants. GTA is stale now, it needs to do something bigger/better/deeper.

Shatterdome

Remember, it's just a demo and not neccessarly indictive of the final gameplay. Regardless I agree it could be better, but they are doing some cool things...I really like blowing up cars and chain reactions....wouldn't mind seeing what other weapons they have too. I wonder if they will have downloadable missions and like new cars or types of vehicles (ie. motorcylce, boats, planes, jetpacks, whatever...) I'm not a big fan of the genre anyways though, so meh :P

GTA

GTA sucked after Vice City. There was something about San Andreas that I didnt like. I dont really know what it was. I think it could it be that the missions seemed not thought out enough--not "full" enough or rushed. Also, the level map was too big it was boring going from one point of the map all the way to another point. GTA should do a 20s style mobster game. Suicide door cars, Tommy guns, Rival Mobster gangs...etc. If they did it right it could be a good game.
