Before we continue, we would like to take this moment to firmly plant a big, red Rumor flag on this one, just to serve as due warning. And with that said, here it comes:Recently, word has been passed along the various channels of the intarw3bs, saying that Australia will soon be seeing a bigger and badder version of the Xbox 360 by March. As the story goes, the appearance of the new version is meant to be a measure for Microsoft to be able to take a share of a market that would have been solely Sony's for that time. Moreover, it's supposed that this new toy is going to be a limited edition offering, and that the console itself and its controllers will all come in black; it will come with a 120GB HDD, and it will retail for AU$ 749 (about US$ 584).
As it turns out, various parties have been trying to confirm this by making calls to the local department store, Myer. According to Myer employees, though, folks from Microsoft have paid them a visit and performed demonstrations of the supposed new console so that the staff can be acquainted with its features.
That's right. Myer employees claim that they have actually seen an actual, working model of the new-and-improved Xbox360 (or Xbox720. Or Zephyr. Whatever floats your boat, really...).
Meanwhile, Microsoft is still delivering the same, "we don't comment on their speculation" standard response when questioned about this matter.

It would seem that xbox (as in MS' game department, not the console) cant keep up with the current generation, poor fella's.
because, why else would they be releasing this ? (if its ever released anyway)
Now if they could only get lossless master audio for their games, that would make HDMI totally worth it.

It would be even better if there was a noticable difference in sound quality between dolby digital 5.1 and 7.1. I think somebody should do a real side by side comparison and see if they could tell the difference.
I'm skeptical it's just something new that people have to buy new equipment for. I can't really tell a differnece between mp3s and CDs so I highly doubt it would be worth upgrading the receiver if it did support it.
This would be BS because their alienating the "old" 360 owners, this is somthing i would expect out of Sony not microsoft...
Lossless audio isnt about 7.1 sound.
Its about sound calrity.
By comparison Dolby Digital vs Dolby Lossless is like VHS sound vs DVD. its that much different.
Once you watch alot of blu-ray movies or HD DVD movies with master audio, going back to DVD seems extremely bland and unclear.
Sony has yet to alienate any Playstation user with a drastic upgrade on the hardware so to say you expect this from Sony, that proves your a Xbox fanboy.
Microsoft has been doing this years before the Xbox was even released. Windows service packs are one thing, if you dont have the newest service pack, they wont provide you with any software support period.
The add-on system is totally alienating. Those without the hard drive are almost completely shut out of Xbox Live.
The only thing thats new about the new design is the HDMI connector. THATS IT. If you dont have HDMI then you dont gain anything by getting the new design.
The 120Gb drive will be an addon that existing Xbox360s can use once released.
You obviously have no clue to whats going on. You have no reason to complain about the new Xbox360 unless you have a HDMI connection on your TV.

the new on-demand features that are supposed to be released later this year..? it seems like this new model might have another hardware upgrade to make that possible.
You would think for a new console that is launching in two months that there would be some brochure or packaging leaks. This stuff takes time to make and there are plenty of places where this stuff leaks from, just look at the 360 launch.
As much as I'd like to believe it, it seems all a little strange now. However, it would explain why MS cut back there 360 shipment forecast for the fiscal year, to clear out old stock for the new model. Wait and see wait and see.

It makes sense, especially with movie market place...all they are doing is bundling it with a bigger HD and adding HDMI, no huge revolution to "catch up". I have no need for either so I could care less, but for new buyers it's a good option for those who want to DL tons of HD shows/movies.
Why people even refer to it as the 720 is silly, they will just have the xbox 360 Core, Premium and "media" (or something similar) package.

There is no major improvement, so I don't know what the big deal is.
There would be no hardware changes needed to implement the internet TV and such, just a firmware upgrade, or seperate proggy on the HD.

There's nothing wrong with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound output. But yes HDMI will make outputting digital codecs possible.
sony did not alienate me or my ps2 for almost 6 years. that was the major reason why i did not want to get a xbox360. i knew microsoft was going to do this, a new console every 44.1 seconds.

Maybe when PS3 owners get the old updated Oblivion (we get the new Shivering Isles) they will have something to play and not post rubbish here.

Its called either desperation or lack of IT knowledge, either way the PS3 is being outside 3 to 1 in its stronghold of Japan and the 360 is actually on the up there so they must know something.

If this system comes out then I will be thoroughly pissed. I own both a PS3 AND an XBOX 360, you know why.... BECAUSE I AM A GAMER!!! I am not gonna pick one system and say its the best just because its the one I won. I buy all systems on launch. And because of my enthusiasm Microsoft rewards me by shafting me and releasing a new system. I have a HDTV that does 1080p and I have a 6.1 surround sound system. This is one of the reason why I love my Ps3, it is a TRUE next gen system and caters to my Entertainment system, love the blu-ray. And now Microsoft is releasing a new system with the crap they should have put in in the first place. Like come on who hasnt filled up their 20g harddrive. And also who feels like paying prolly another $120 plus on a new harddrive and then having to swap HD's back in forth or lose old data. Lets not also forget that one of 360's biggest strengths is the price and at $598 its the same price of the PS3 and the PS3 still comes with blu-ray capabilities and Wifi and free online. Microsoft next time please get it right the first time.
And as for the PS3 not having many games right now, its only been out for 3 months for Christ's sake. Or did everyone forget that 360 didnt launch with gears of War, Lost planet, Dead Rising or even Dead or Alive 4 for that matter.

Go do your sums properly about the price of the Zephyr v PS3 its all changed ie add hddvd then deduct half of the price of the hard drive to buy wireless connection + equal same system and price but 360 you can now add the bits you want when you want. and of course the games library is huge on 360.
And as for the wireless Dont make me laugh I would never run any games system through wireless anyway,in fact my router is sitting here right now running FOUR CAT 6 flat cables and wireless is switched OFF, its to unreliable when playing in clan matches etc No dropouts from Cat6 but wireless is poop for dropouts.

The PS3 machine has been out in its case and on the shelfs for 3 months BUT the dev kits have been around for ages OH just go do your homework.

And i agree with ya vecha that it won't effect gaming but I'm pretty sure it will output a better picture then the standard 360. Am i right or am i wrong? Sony was even trying to release the 20gb ps3 without internet connection and would if people didnt complain. just get over this "ZEPHYR" thing and keep on gaming.
