For those of us who have yet to give in to the temptation of buying one of those shiny new consoles of next-gen joy from Microsoft, here's a rumor to chew on: the new shipments of Xbox 360s coming into a particular electronics and videogames boutique (cough, Circuit City, cough) may be bundled with a particular game (Rockstar's Table Tennis) - not as a freebie, but as an actual bundled item. Very interesting.

For what it's worth, the picture does seem authentic, and with the game being Table Tennis itself, this rumor isn't all that far-fetched. First, it could be a direct countermeasure against Nintendo's highly-effective campaign of bundling Wii Sports with the Nintendo Wii.

Second, while the choice of the bundled game may seem pretty suspect, it's actually a smart decision, as casual gamers looking for a solid title to start with would immediately feel at home with Table Tennis. The fact that Table Tennis is also kid-friendly and wholesome (no scantily-clad females waiting on street corners, no violence, no guns) also makes it a solid investment.

Third, and probably the most important - free games with next-gen console bundles are ALWAYS relevant. The cherry on top. The finishing touch. The contract-sealer. In short, it's something that sweetens the deal.

Certainly good news that Microsoft's upping the ante some in the console sales war. Updates as we get them!

It seems a bit strange that Microsoft would pack in a game made by a third party company instead of one of their games produced in-house.

» Strange...

...or a part of the little deal between them and Rockstar?

TT is still a pretty good game. I found it addictive and fun even though i was highly skeptical at first. I thought it would just be pong or some boring tennis game, but in many ways i find it better than games like Virtua Tennis. Great game to bundle with.

Agreed. It made great use of rumble also. I loved how you could feel the edge of the table. So quick, so precise and there is nothing like fighting out 100 shot rallies against a friend from each corner of the table.

» It's true

This is true. I saw this bundle at Best Buy today. A bunch of 360's stacked in a little pyramid, all with those stickers on them. I'm guessing it was a brand new shipment, too, because they actually had a healthy supply of 360 Elites near them (which tend to go quickly).

Wow XBox being bundled with table tennis thats great. I guess you can't bundle good games, like PS3 and motostorm.

Right. Just like Nintendos Wii-play. A game crappy enough where it has to be bundled with something otherwise no one would buy it. I gotta say the 360s game lineup is getting awfully close to Nintendo in the quality of their games. At least Nintendo blatantly markets itself to little kids and non gamers, while the 360 is supposed to be for the hardcore gamer since their xbox live generates them alooot of money. I'm truly dissapointed by MS on this.

» A driving game without rumble LOL yer right 360 owners would really want that eh !

Why would they want Motostorm when they could include Forza 2 or Project Gotham?. You need to get with the times go look at the amazing graphics on the 360 version of Moto Gp 07 on the extreme mode where the devs are not stuck on making identical to real life circuits, it makes Motostorm look rubbish, which it is anyway as it has no rumble, a driving game without rumble LOL..
