Rumor: US $50 price cut for Xbox 360 in August? |
Ó
It's time once more to check out what's being whispered along the videogame industry's grapevines, and this time it's about a rumored price cut for the Xbox 360, with about fifty greenbacks (US $50) being slashed off the console's pricetag come this August 8. Interested? Read on and find out more.So how did this rumor come to exist? It's been the subject of much debate for quite some time, really, with the Nintendo Wii leading the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in terms of sales - the console with the motion-tracking capabilities outselling its Microsoft rival almost 2-to-1.
But speculation really started to get out of control when Sony suddenly announced its massive price cut for its console, boosting the PS3's numbers to an almost unprecedented height. With its hardcore gaming rival's overnight success in sales, it'd certainly be no surprise if the Xbox 360 followed suit with a price cut of its own.
And if you look at the date, it certainly makes sense. Popular titles such as Madden NFL 08, BioShock and Stranglehold (only to name a few) will be heading out to store shelves at pretty much around the same time frame as the price cut - it'd certainly be safe to say that gamers who have yet to buy into the next-gen craze would be looking for an affordable platform to play these games in.
Of course, this is just all just rumors. Besides the date and the amount, we don't know if the cut itself will cascade to the other versions of the console. Plus, Microsoft itself made no confirmation of a price cut through a spokesman who delivered this statement:
We have no announcements to make on pricing at this time. While price matters, content is king. And no other system is offering all the games people want to play this holiday at a better price than Xbox 360.
Let's keep in mind, though, that no confirmation doesn't usually mean an outright denial, as they may just suddenly come around and announce it. After all, Sony's done the old fakeout once or twice with the PS3. And with Microsoft now taking better care of its customers more than ever, it's not that far-fetched a possibility.
Updates as we get them, so watch this space!

Sony didn't do a price cut. They lowered the price on their old stock and kept the price point for new hardware at the same point. The new hardware has 20GB more, but relies on software for backwards compatibility.
im pretty sure that there will be a price drop after the 360 price drop and who cares nobody will by the PS3 because it sucks and it only has one good game and it is pretty much only a Blu-Ray player
Could this mean MS may follow in their paths making the premium the same price as the core and scrapping the core all together O_o maybe...
doesn't even pay for the repair cost.....cheap bastard
Hahaha, can you be any more right?
Now i can buy lots of 360s and then chuck em with my catapult at sony fanboys!!!!
I doubt Microsoft can afford to drop the 360 price after their last fiscal year (loss of 1.9 billion). Not only do they have such a big loss but they also now have the new 3 year extended warranty and new repairs for free looming over them, and since microsoft do not seem to be doing anything about the ROD then their profits will plumet again.
I just highly doubt microsoft can now afford another price drop.
What i don't understand about this whole 360/PS3 fight is the fact that most good titles that are going to be on the 360 have a PC counterpart. I don't know about the majority of 360 fans and PS3 fans, but i own a pretty nice computer as well as the console. So being a PS3 owner can play all their good games, and buy the good 360 games on the PC. just a thought.
