RUMOR: Special trade-in for Xbox 360 elite brewing? |

With the unveiling of the Xbox 360 Elite a few days ago, all sorts of people from the gaming industry have been saying their piece about it. A research mentioned that the Xbox 360 Elite got a negative reception, Michael Pachter also voiced out his opinions about it, and of course Peter Dille already said that the Elite legitimises Sony's PS3 strategy. With all that said, it's just gonna take a short time before the rumors about Xbox 360 Elite kick in.Over at the Xbox forums, a guy with a gamertag Xx KILLA KEV xX talked about how Microsoft could be planning a special trade in for the Elite. Since we don't want to be flamed, here is his word-per-word post:
I called Gamestop today to see what kind of value I would get for my Prem 360 and the manager told me that they would have to see it in person, of course we all know that, but after talking to him about the elite he said that corporate had sent a memo stating that MS was working on a special Trade in for existing 360 owners to get the Elite. Im guessing there is alot of truth to the statement due to all the negative feedback from the gaming community. That would make things alot better if they did.
Website Xbox 360 Rally submitted this story to Digg and they received a comment from a certain Sega 4 Life, allegedly a GameStop employee. Basically, he debunked the rumor and he mentioned that they received an email from MS stating that there won't be any special trade-in options.
For now, all we could do is speculate and take this rumor with a grain of salt. Keep checking us out for updates about this rumor.

Basically it stated hat under NO circumstances could we give a customer with an existing 360 an Elite as a exchange for a defective system (this is warranty info).
That was the only thing Gamestop corp ever sent the stores...
However they do push systems that aren't selling (the ps3) very hard so we may have a offer (like how we now have a $100 off ps3 offer) going if it doesn't sell.
If it is true you just know the trade-in won't net you nearly $300 for your current 360 so it'd be better to either see what you can get on eBay or just buy the bigger HDD

I'd pay up to £90 to transfer my console in to an elite.
I don't care about the hdd its the quiter noice, better dvd drive and 3 red light reliabilty that I want.
Im defnatly getting the Elite, I just brought the PS3 and its going on Ebay for sale the games so far are average at best and now reading that a whole lot of games will have NO online play because the non Sony Devs have to host their own servers i,e Virtua tennis 3, Team Fortress etc(NO ONLINE PLAY) thats no good to me I dont want any games that have no multiplayer....
So the Elite 360 is the perfect system for me.

If there was a trade in, the only way i'd go for it was if I had to pay no more then $50 over the price of the HDD seperately...as that's all that matters to me...black is nice, but not THAT nice...
So, if they can give you a trade in where you give them your 360 and you pay $180-230, then perhaps i'll go for it.

You don't need an Elite 360, you can just have the premium one. Also, me and i bet a lot of other people don't give a ***** about the HD-DVD drive. And also, the online is only $50. And the wireless internet isn't needed either, I have a 50 ft ethernet cord that costed $15 that works beautifully. So, let me revise your math because you obviously suck at it (480+200+60+100+840 dumbass). $400+$50+$15+$465, still cheaper than the PS3.
Unless this trade in gets me at least $280 for my current (so I pay $180 out of my pocket for the HDD and $20 for everything else, no more) I'll just go for eBay or keep it.

ok say for ppl that just want the 120gig drive, there offering it for 180, i can get a 160gig drive for 105 for the ps3, and its only 50 for online, but thats 50 a year

I never use wireless for online play on my 360 or pc its unreliable dropouts in a team clan game spells disaster, I use Super flat 50 ft cat 6 cable it only cost about £3 and you can hide it anywhere.
Blu Ray and HD DVD a simple fact is the dedicated HDDVD hardware is outselling the Blu ray hardware go and check on any site you like even bias ones cant hide it.
They tried challenged the DVD9 and have both LOST and been stamped into the dirt the dvd9(as in the 360) and also in just about every household in the world will be the winner for years to come.....
We can all get cheaper drives for both systems the 360 has the SATA adapter but it isnt about that its about OFFICIAL hardware which always costs more on any console than what you can get by buying a third party version online...

the 20gb ps3 isn't "abandoned"
all they are changing is the hdd um which can be upgraded much higher than the xbox 360 120gb for less money.

ok you see you've already spent £300 or £280 so just plus £290 to £265+£555 thats how you would spend to buy a elite if you alreay own a xbox 360.
this is also say that sony is on the right path, do you think they would have added hdmi ports if sony did already include this.

People only buy the xbox 360 as a cheap alternative to next gen console not a huge hdd which 1080p (not even in games).

The ps3 was built to have sata drives (built in) the xbox 360 which need wires and needs to connect to a pc .
Dont compare the ps3 sata to the hacked xbox 360 through pc sata.
It migh not be published by sony but, sony built the drive so 3 rd parties hdd can be used independently.
In Europe and Australia the 20 gig version is NOT available so in turn it has in fact more or less been dropped..
Its 80 gig change and being an official product you can bet your life it will cost a lot more than a third party One......
Limitless size harddrives are also on 360 using the adapter any SATA drive can be added..
Hmm I have seen posts about people adding 3rd party drives and then other posts about Sonys policy and voiding the PS3 warranty on the same subject...
yeah this is no big deal, i have a ps3 and xbox 360, the ps3 is a better value, but the xbox 360 has a better user interface, better game play, and a better controller. i'm really not bias i have both and i like the 360 better.
so i will upgrade to the elite, and the whole trade in thing, i'm already selling my premium to my best friend, he'll save some green and i'll actually drag him into the next gen gaming community so he can play me online. he's a cheap skate so it's about time.

On another note, I doubt Microsoft will offer any kind of trade in, which sucks, but that's what happens when you end up buying a new console. It's known that it'll be revised in a year or two, and no one is going to give away all that extra production for free.... Unless I can somehow get a decent chunk of money back somewhere for my current 360, there's no way I'll buy the Elite. HDMI is nice, but not totally necessary. And I can't say I've filled up my current 360's HD yet, not even close. (Then again, I don't see the need to put music directly on it when it can stream it from pc's and portable music players).
