Rumor: New Project Natal Xbox 360 SKU coming next year |
Ó

Apart from denying the rollout of a new console, Microsoft has so far kept their lips sealed about any further Xbox 360 revisions that will be specifically made to work with their new Project Natal tech. The rumor mill is being extra persistent about this one, however.
The latest rumor comes from Digitimes, who surmises that a Project Natal-equipped version of the Xbox 360 will be released in the second half of 2010. The rumor stems from a recent Microsoft deal with Aptina where the latter will will supply the former with 1.3-megapixel CMOS image sensors. These image sensors are rumored to be for -- you guessed it -- the new Xbox 360 version:
The Project Natal technology uses cameras and sensors to detect users' gestures and movements and transforms back to the console, enabling users to control and interact with the Xbox 360 without using a game controller. Thus, CIS is the key component of the technology, the sources noted.
Microsoft, on the other hand, has said in the past that Project Natal will work on currently-available Xbox 360s, hence there's no need for customers to invest in an entirely new console.

they are making a new xbox even though they said that the current ones already are able to use the technology? with this in mind, im afraid that the sku will not be selling much, and isn't it to early for another version of the xbox?
Given that the first Xbox didn't have a long enough life cycle to warrant a cheaper/smaller SKU, and that they're following Sony's game plan very closely, it seems only logical that a cheaper/smaller XBox would be beneficial to them if they really plan on a 10 year life cycle also.
Life cycles are long this generation, and I'm really happy about that. What I'm NOT happy about is how DLC is being abused by some developers.. I miss the good ole unlockables and cheat codes.
I'm almost certain Digitimes is either looking too far into it or just came to the wrong conclusion, new SKU equals Xbox 360 and Natal bundle for cheap. I highly doubt MS would make everyone buy a new Xbox to use Natal, and they already said multiple times it'll work on all current consoles. That's what I'm hoping anyway, because I'm not buying another Xbox
