Rumor: Microsoft to ready another round of Xbox 360 price cuts |
Ó
Don't look now, but an industry insider has hinted that Microsoft might be setting the Xbox 360 console up for another series of price slashes by this earlier September.Even more lucrative about this rumor, however, is that it sees the 60GB Xbox 360 getting cut down to US$ 299, the current price of the 20GB SKU. Here is the rest of the price range raised by the insider:
- Arcade (no hard drive) to $199
- Pro (60GB) to $299
- Elite (120GB) to $399
Once again, we remind the readers that all these details are strictly rumors for the moment. On the other hand, the insider who provided for all this information was the same one who let slip with the pre-E3 price cut for the 20GB Xbox 360, and the arrival of the 60GB unit. The latter tip turned out to be true. Keep in touch in case we hear any more related details.

all these price cuts show that MS is still making a *****load of money of the hardware, 'cause they use cheap parts. If they finally start using quality hardware, they wouldn't have the RRoD and then I might consider getting the 360 finally. The RRoD is the only reason why I am still hesitating.
as i've stated in the past, i own 3 different 360s. i haven't had to send one in for RROD in over a year, and i put them through hell...
anything brand new will have the newest most reliable cooling and parts.
hell even IF it does RROD you are only without a console for 2 weeks max in my experience. i've had 8 returns in total. all for 100% free since RROD is covered for 3 years.
hd gaming @ $200! you can't beat that.
That's just what the 360 needed. They need to make Wi-Fi standard on the Elite too.
Hopefully not a rumor.
I might buy arcade for hacking.
dude 360 only upconverts the games to a higher rez,but doesnt go as far as HD (a.k.a.ps3).
and you said you ONLY had 8 returns? do you hear yourself?
you sound incredibly stupid man... ive havnt had to return my ps3 ONCE and i only have one with a 250gb HDD and purchased it about a year ago or longer... that pathedic on M$ part.
for $100 more you get TRUE HD GAMING with up to 1080p rez and dolby true HD SS,blu-ray player and a billion more goodies that you wont get in a f@gb0x.
i used my former 360 (a.k.a RROD machine) for a bonfire at the beach while me and my friendo's were playin some psp ad-hoc style. lol sony owns,360's garbage (literally).
Gotta love Sony marketing. TRUE HD! What a beautiful marketing term created by Sony. The 360 has more games in native 1080p resolution. Most games are 720p but the 360 can scale everything up to 1080p.
And the price difference is $200. And you get a bigger and better catalog of games. Less framerate problems and less dodgy ports. The only thing the PS3 owns is third place. ;)
I'm sorry, but the gaming catalog isn't that much bigger or even better to justify a reason for buying the console. Seriously, each system has the same amount of good exclusives, it's just that Halo and Gears are insanely over hyped and America eats that stuff up, because we have sources like MTV to tell the peons of our society what's good and what isn't. Both the 360 and the PS3 are dead even right now. So the only thing that should be your deciding factor is personal preference or Budget. Because as of right now, most of the games that are good are multi-platform anymore. Of course, if you feel the need to play Halo and Gears, 2 mediocre shooters with tired stories. with your friends online then go ahead. The 360 is so cheap now I might just buy one for the sake of having all 3 next gen systems. I'd rather play games like Mass Effect and Gears on my PC anyway.
games to come shud also help decide wat to buy, not just budget or preference....
Sorry but you're wrong about native 1080p games on the 360.
The 360 has 3 which are native at 1080p. Yes, only 3 games!!
The PS3 on the other hand has at least 26 which are native at 1080p.
The tests were done by taking feeds directly from the HDMI port, so yes, Sony CAN boast about HD gaming.
Google it if you want to find out for yourself.
You mean this:
http://www.makeyougohmm.com/xbox360-1080p-games/
http://www.makeyougohmm.com/ps3-1080p-games/
It does say only 3 Xbox 360, but then says there are 35 unconfirmed titles that have 1080p on the back on the box.
With the PS3 list they aren't picky. Read the notes.
...checked as being 1080p compatible firsthand [!!! by the back of the game box !!!] and/or by owning/playing the game at 1080p resolution.
So that's 38 games for the 360 vs 26 games for the PS3.
This just proves Sony are full of it, because they are the ones that promised all PS3 games would be 1080p but can't even out do the 360 with more expensive hardware and Blu-Ray.
as much as you paid for the ps3 i would hope you don't have to return it. oh and i hope you don't use third party accessories, or your warranty is void...
i never said "ONLY 8". i was saying i've had many returns, and it never took more than 2 weeks to get a replacement.
do some research into 1080p for your own sake. it's not even part of the HD standard, it requires too much bandwidth. "True HD" is a marketing buzzword.
i fully believe the ps3 will dominate in another 3-4 years, however that doesn't mean i think anyone should pay too much for one now...
I wouldn't trust what's being printed on the back of the box. Even CoD4 can be played at 1080p but we all know that it has an even lower resolution than Halo 3, coming in at 600p.
They should test them all by taking feeds from the HDMI port, which is what Eurogamer do in their tests.
The 360 isn't really cheaper. You have to think, $50 a year for online. Microsoft gets what, 4 or 5 years out of a console so that's at least $200 paying for online, and then most of my friends aren't close to their routers so they had to dish out $100 for a stupid plastic wireless adapter. If you think about it, the PS3 is starting to look cheap.
