Rumor: Microsoft to ask $100 for Xbox 360 Game Development Kit?

Ó

Since the launch of Xbox 360 last spring, Microsoft has released a pretty solid lineup of games, thus it would seem that creating games for the console is not as expensive as game developers feared. But then again, the games you are enjoying now were published by the big companies: Electronic Arts, Activision, Sega and the like. We don't see the smaller (but equally talented) game developers in the mix.

At the Game Developers Conference on Tuesday, rumor has it that Microsoft plans on launching a developers kit that will make it possible for anyone to create games for the Xbox 360. The kit will only cost $100. If this is indeed true, we can expect a lot of  Xbox 360 games to be released in the market. Not good for Sony who is ramping up the launch of its PS3.

Maybe it will saturate the market but then again it probably wont. M$ knows eventually homebrew is coming to the 360 so releasing a cheap sdk like this makes sure they get a peice of the action.

This setup will probably be more like the yaroze project for the original sony, people could make their games and share them with the community but very few actually became published titles.

oww. MS must be desperate. After spendind thousands upon thousands of dollars, they sell it for 100? ouch. But atleast it may bring some amature game makers in the market.

i think it would be cool if this got people making games and selling them on the marketplace. certainly would make ms look better with a few of those on, something sony certainly wont have unless they know a few amatuer game creaters with a couple of mill in there pockets.
