Rumor: Microsoft to ask $100 for Xbox 360 Game Development Kit? |

Since the launch of Xbox 360 last spring, Microsoft has released a pretty solid lineup of games, thus it would seem that creating games for the console is not as expensive as game developers feared. But then again, the games you are enjoying now were published by the big companies: Electronic Arts, Activision, Sega and the like. We don't see the smaller (but equally talented) game developers in the mix.At the Game Developers Conference on Tuesday, rumor has it that Microsoft plans on launching a developers kit that will make it possible for anyone to create games for the Xbox 360. The kit will only cost $100. If this is indeed true, we can expect a lot of Xbox 360 games to be released in the market. Not good for Sony who is ramping up the launch of its PS3.

This setup will probably be more like the yaroze project for the original sony, people could make their games and share them with the community but very few actually became published titles.
