Xbox 360 Elite - Image 1Rumors have come in that Microsoft will be shelling out quite a bit of money due to some red ring of death issues with the Xbox 360 Elite. According to an article from the Daily Mail, the repair bill will cost the company £500 million.

Those who purchased the console and experienced the red ring of death have been sending their systems back to the Microsoft, which are in turn are being shipped to Germany for repairs.

Microsoft has released a statement which pointed out that "the majority of Xbox 360 owners enjoy a great experience with their console" and that "anyone with a problem should call Xbox customer service."

No source mentioned at all in the brief article. And the article doesn't say "Microsoft expected to pay £500million", it says "Microsoft are facing a £500million repair bill". Seems like the article writter is just speculating what the potential cost could be. Considering MS could probably produce 3 million BRAND NEW elite consoles at the cost of £500million (if each elite cost £167 to manufacture). MS repairs 360s in most cases and only replaces 360's in rare cases, so the £500million repair bill for elites is total BS.

I dont know if the article was referrring to the US $1 billion dollar repair allocation MS original has assigned to fixing RROD 360s. But it reeks of sloppy journalism without any souce to back up a pretty wild claim.

» Sure is an odd article

I wonder how many elites that equates to, I was under the impression that the new heatsync actually worked quite well and the 3RoD thing was a thing of the past. I'm aware that the falcon board fixes things further but I thought the elite zephyr board with it's fancy new dual heatsync for the GPU worked pretty well. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has an elite that 3RoD on them and FFS no PS3 fanboy posts please.

Hang on I'll add one for you guys just so you don't have to say anything:

ZOMG! BBQ PS3 is TH3 RUL3Z!!!

» No doubts

Microsoft has struggled greatly with the the functioning of their consoles, no doubts about that. But I'm sure these issues will be fixed and addressed. I have both a X360 and a PS3 and there is no doubt that the 360 has a better library of games [as of now]. My 360 has never gave me problems but my friends have had problems.

Once again I feel like I have to walk on eggshells when I talk about anything against the PS3. Sony fans, I know the PS3 is getting some good games, I'm just saying the 360 has a great library right now. Keep it cool, don't get upset over one little comment. Everyone else, keep it real!

» hey hey hey

its ok, the PS3 fanboyz have run out of things to say/. they are all out of fuel. Even their latest FW update has bricked a few PS3s according to engadget. I also own both systems, and with the exception of MGS which was only JUST released... I turn on my PS3 about once a month for a brief session. 360 FTW

» microsoft is not charitable. stop acting like they are.

microsoft is not charitable. they treat all customer as if we are all careless. i hope the author of this entry stop writing about them like they are kind. author must be sponsored by microsoft. when the system first release, they knew about the issue slightly before release date. did they recall? nope, they were expecting customer to suck it up and pay even for their incompetence. they are not fixing it out of kindness just so you know. lawsuit led them to provide forced repair but you still have to pay shipping from you to them at first.

there are also this 1 red light of death (1 light on lower right quadrant) incident where symptom are exactly the same as 3rrod. guess what? i told them the truth that i got 1 light while everyone online does otherwise. they end up charging me 100 usd because their 3 yr 3rrod warranty doesnt cover 1 rrod .

now if at the end of this gen that 360 is the loser, than we know the main factor or possibly the only factor why.

» uhhhhh yea.....

This statement just shouts 360 fanboyism which makes us all look bad. You don't see this news on the PS3 side of things and of course, unless they are PS3 fanboys, they don't go trolling down this side.

Although its a good thing that they might be dishing out that much money just for repairs, for ROD, hoping that it doesn't happen to me again..sigh, well happened 4 times, having the console out for this long with this problem still not fixed just makes me think y i stuck this long for this.

» same here

I got one in Nov last year and so far it works fine not a problem. The only freezing I got was triggered by the game (SW2 in one stage and is repeatable under the same condition) . It's just like all those ppl complain about DRE on PS2 and I got it the first week in US release and I never seen it on my. Guess I am just too lucky
