Konami's Metal Gear Solid series - Image 1

With only a couple of days left before the release of the highly anticipated conclusion to the Metal Gear Solid series, it seems like a stealthy rumor was able to sneak past Konami's normally tight security. This latest tidbit comes from video gaming site ripten, which stated that Solid Snake may get its first ever appearance on the Xbox 360 very soon.

According to ripten's sources, they were able to spy evidence of the MGS series taking steps to infiltrate Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade service. To be more specific, word of the supposed transfer came from none other than PartnerNet, the developers-only alternate Xbox Live network used to beta test unreleased downloadable content for the next-gen console.

While it may seem highly unlikely that  Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots can even fit on to a simple DVD format (much less the 350mb size limitation on XBLA), this wouldn't be the first time the series has stepped outside of its PlayStation turf. There's been no word which specific incarnation the MGS series may find itself on the Microsoft console, but the ripten writer Patrick Steen seemed rather confident about his sources.

Whether this latest tidbit in the rumor mill proves itself false or otherwise has yet to be seen. In any case, we'll be sure to keep everyone posted on any new updates regarding the matter.

i doubt it. If anything it can be MG from the msx. MGS 1(i dont count PC because that would mean the 360 has like 3 exclusives), 3, and 4 are all exclusive so i dont think were going to see a MGS on it. Regardless i can careless because i have all the consoles but it just seems highly unlikely.

» Oh, come on.

Think about it for a second. They just re-released all 3 games together in a single package for the PS1/PS2. Why would it suddenly make the jump to Xbox?

by theaceoffire - 2008-06-10 00:11
» One more thing

Remember, the games on XBLA have size restrictions... it used to be 50MB, they raised it to 150MB, and recently to 250MB... That is tiny for a PS1 game like MGS, which has always had cutscenes...

by ahnp - 2008-06-10 01:38
» ha

fit on a dvd, they had to compress it to fit on a dual layer bluray,1 and 2 already went across platform so i can see a possibility of those going on their network but i agree with matey before 3+4 are exclusives they might just be able to pull 3 but no 4 definetly

» ... and another thing

The Essentials Collection was for PS2/PS3, not PS2/PS2.

by Adamantius Snake - 2008-06-10 01:40
» Maybe

Maybe they're bringing one of, if not both, NES versions to XBLA.

by NarooN - 2008-06-10 01:50
» well..

If there's a 350mb limit, how would MGS1 come to the XBLA if the game required 2 whole discs?

I doubt even the original MG series will come by any means, especially since Metal Gear 3 is coming for PSP soon. And yes, that's confirmed, it's being shown at E3. All we have now is a screen of the title screen, which shows "METAL GEAR 3: REVOLVER OCELOT"

It's about Ocelot helping Big Boss to build his infamous organization, the real organization and not the supposed evil one.

» regardless...

whether you doubt it or not... MGS2 Substance was released on the original xbox also. putting MGS on XBL might not be that farfetched. Adamantius Snake who commented below also raises a valid point: maybe it'll be the NES version of Metal Gear.

it's really anyone's guess. but i'm with you. i couldn't care less whether or not it'd show up on xbl. my ps2 is still working and i can play most of the mgs series there still if i want to.

» (farts VERY loud)

yeah ok wutever...

they wont bring any of them to xbla just for the fact kojima does not like xbox or M$ and stated that in one of the confrences this year (forgot witch one so look it up for yourselves)....

MGS series has ruled over the ps for a decade and will continue forever on ps3 and on to come... theres no Xbox 360 or XBLA in all this so its pointless to even mention it-there just doing that becouse MGS4 is the most highly anticipated ps3 game ever and for the fact since knowing its release date a while back-its ben metal gear every were-internet sites,tv trailers, wallpa pers everywere, dedic ated fan sites everywere, new ps3 bundles, intervi ews up the wazoo, and much more. so of course they are gunna put this peice of poo idiot that says mg is coming to xbla.

i need to go break that bastards legs ( WHOS WITH ME?) ... oh btw i accually didnt know mgs 2 went to xbox as well.... it must of ben later after cuz mgs 2 came out in early 2001 and xbox came out in late 2001.

oh well, im going to meet konami and kojima in person this saturday, ill talk to him about it.... haha sucka's!

so in the end yes i did bust a loud FART in m$ face. :)

» metal gear wasnt only on ps1

it was out years before on the nes and mx2 back in 1987 its probly that version i havent played it so i cnt tell you what its like

by SHGill - 2008-06-10 03:28
» Hope

I hope they do give XBL Metal Gear, Metal Gear: Solid Snake, and Metal Gear: Snake's Revenge. They are less than the limit cap (250mb). As for the "SOLID" series, yeah...We wont see those on XBL. But it'll shut Xbox 360 owners about Metal Gear Solid 4:Guns of the Patriots for a while :)

» MGS PC

One thing that makes this workable is that MS was the publisher of the PS1 MGS for the PC back in 2000.

In fact there was a site the MS made for the game and had a demo. So, if it is this game, then yes I do see this. If not, No way at all.

by Adamantius Snake - 2008-06-10 04:15
» oops

made an error, meant to say "not PS1/PS2"

by Koolaidsred1 - 2008-06-10 04:30
» ...

I know MGS2 went to the xbox in the substance edition. I stated 1,3,4 were exclusive and that the MSX(NES same thing) version is entirely possible.

"The Essentials Collection was for PS2/PS3, not PS1/PS2."

Then why did it include a PS1 disc?

Metal Gear Solid 2 - PC, Xbox, PS2

Metal Gear Solid 3 - PS2

Metal Gear Solid 4 - PS3

» Remember they have Xbox originals section now

Partner net has alot more then XBLA running on it, I would also suspect they trial out Xbox originals for download on there. And given that I have fond memories of playing metal gear solid 2 substance on the the xbox1 (even though it was a year after the PS2 had it) I would say that it would be a good title to redo for the 360. Especially since the PS3 doesn't play PS2 games, so people out there with only a PS3 40gig wanting to play the MGS2 an xbox360 is a possibility of doing it.

I would guess that an xbox originals version of MGS2 is coming out through xbox live.

There's no way that they'd market any of the MGS games as an arcade title, they're simply not arcade titles. Speaking of which when the heck is SF2 Turbo coming out on XBLA?

by YAMI ANUBIS X - 2008-06-10 15:15
» Hey yo they may mean MGS2 Substance.

The crappy Xbox version.

That maybe the one infiltrating Xbox Live Marketplace.

Oh yeah the NES games were NOT the MSX games, they were not made by Kojima, there not even canon. So yeah Konami could sucker people right into buying those bad NES Metal Gear games.

Those MG NES games were really bad and terrible.

But they were on a Nintendo console.

Kojima called them crap because they were not even true to his version.

MSX MG games are canon and are the true games.

If there is any MGS game coming to Xbox Live Marketplace, it will be MGS2 Substance.

Kojima didnt like the port because it was so bad.

The MGS2 Substance on Xbox was none other than the PS2 version, infact Kojima was already finished with the PS2 version and was forced to port it over to the Xbox.

He hated the outcome cause it was real bad.

by Adamantius Snake - 2008-06-11 04:40
» .

"Then why did it include a PS1 disc?"

It didn't, sure MGS1 PS1 game, but not in The Essentials Collection, it was formated so that it can be played on the PS2/PS3.

by Games4James - 2008-06-12 23:45
» I know I'm a bit late but...

...you're completely wrong about MGS on the XBox.

It was actually just as good, if not BETTER in some ways, than the PS2 version. The only exception was slowdown in a few areas, such as the tanker level.

http://xbox.ign.com/articles/376/376778p1.html

But overall, depsite being a port, it's far from crappy like you claim. :)
