Solid Snake featured in Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4 - Image 1After numerous rumors whether or not the long-standing PlayStation-exclusive title Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is going multi-platform, here's another log to throw into the proverbial fire. Freeze, a writer for XboxFamily, mentioned getting actual confirmation from a Konami distribution representative that MGS4 will be coming to the Xbox 360.

While the rep's name was undisclosed, it was supposedly confirmed that the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4 is currently in development for the Xbox 360. The rep also stated that the game will be released for the Xbox 360 between 12 to 14 months after the PS3 version hits shelves.

After trying to confirm this with Microsoft's John Porcaro, Freeze was merely rebuffed with the standard "no comment" reply from Microsoft's PR team member. While this may spell big things for the normally console-exclusive title if this is true, we'll just have to wait and see if anything new turns up to confirm these rumors.

You can check out John Porcaro's reply in full to XboxFamily through the Via link below.

I also heard from a bungie rep that they are working on a halo trilogy for the PS3 and it will be coming out in 18 months :)

Rumor that it's confirmed? That's rich.

» Facepalm

Oh God I hate this rumor so much.

Kojima said it himself. MGS4 is PS3 ONLY!!!

Done. Those damn Xbots need to get their heads out of their asses.

» SO far,

A lot of the past metal gears have went cross platform. I dont see what makes mes4 so different. Konami would stand to make wuite a bit of money that wouldnt be made if it remained exclusive, Maybe for a certain ammount of time msg 4 will be online for the ps3. But trust that im time. We will see a metal gear solid 4 "substance" sometime in the future. Without a doubt. *nods

» bah forgive me, for the typos.

Too many typoes. Im still hung over from new years eve. Anyway. If i could erase it i would. But in short. Konami stand to make a lot of money by putting out mgs4 multi platform. You can all place your bets now. But konami will have metal gear solid 4 on the 360, even if it has to use a loop hole like renaming the game completely.

"metal Gear Solid, twilight hourglass" Sounds nice. Hell anything number of loop holes could get mgs4 on to the 360, to be honest. :)

heheheh happy new year to all! this year brings about a looong ass rumor.....heh only one way to find out! and i agree with Shadyprophet, there are more Xbots out there, giving such a big game an equaly bigger community should well be worth it!

» hummm...

A rumor that its confirmed by someone of konami that they can't tell his name.... Why I don't bite that?

Seriously doubt it. MGS4 was built specifically around the PS3's architecture. The only place you'd really be seeing it besides on the PS3 is probably on the PC. Twin Snakes was released 6 years after it came out, and Substance came out 2 years after. You won't be seeing it "soon after".

It's already been repeated time and time again by Kojima that the game would only be released on the PS3. He never once hesitated, and he has a solid stance on the issue. This is a direct quote from him:

"The PS3 is like the theatre, it's a little bit high-priced but it has to be high quality as well. The 360 is a DVD, it still needs to be high quality but you need more variations, while the Wii is almost like a TV channel, because every game you have it with your family," Kojima was quoted as saying.

"MGS4 is aimed for the movie theatre, it's aimed for the PS3, so the game's scenario and graphics need this theatre-type hardware. It's when a producer has a game that can work on the 'DVD level' that a game will go multiplatform", adding that the rumor continues "because [Xbox] 360 owners want it on 360, obviously.

» And besides...

These are the guys that brought out the rumor of the 360 motion sensing controller, which was flatly denied by Microsoft, and also said that Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway was concerned.

How can you truly trust these guys?

» Ugh...

Cancelled, not concerned. I think I drank too much last night, because I'm still feeling the effects. +P

» LOL

Fact: the world will end.

Rumour: this great do not miss event will occur on the 1st of April 2008.

Conjecture: I would love to see some kind of cross platform live situation where gamers take their heroes online to do battle. Master Chief goes all guns blazing to whack Snake whilst Snake is quietly sneaking up for a silent kill of the Chief.

Fun: Personally I love reading the rumours as I find it amusing how hot under the collar so many xbots and fanboys can get.

Happy new year to all regardless of your choice of hero and may 2008 be a great year for all gamers.

» It could be possible, it could not be possible.

But you guys, if you guys know about the old Capcom betraying Shinji Mikami and giving PS2 RE4 aswell, then Konami can do it aswell, if the price is right.

Yeah I know Konami use to be honor but you know companies change over time like Capcom and they go multiplatform and screw console owners over big time.

Kojima can and will deny it all he wants but I don't think you guys get the picture about this, is that even if he says that its not being ported to the 360, Konami could have gotten a development team together to start work on a MGS4 game behind Kojimas back for the Xbox 360, in case it doesnt sell well on the PS3, companies have done it before and they will keep on doing it.

Lets all be realistic here, even the creators don't even know whats going on behind the scenes alot of times.

Sony is a great company but you guys need to learn about the basic evolvement of how companies become multiplatform based.

Kojima is a Sony fan, we all know that but not all of Konami can see through his ways.

by shabghai360 - 2008-01-02 03:27
» yes

very realistic points made. Regardless of an individuals feelings a company exists to make money otherwise it is a charity. At the end of the day "money talks" The only way to ensure a product does not go multi platform is if the developers receive money that will equal sales as compensation.

» Umm...

Not possible. This site has never gave a true statement in their tenures. When did we start relying on them for our news?

by Yaz - 2008-01-02 13:31
» On the contrary.

It is possible. We'll just have to wait and see if it happens. Right now it's still a rumour, albeit a long running rumour regarding MGS4 for the 360.

Referring to your earlier posts, denials from Konami or Kojima doesn't mean anything btw, since they are to be expected regardless of whether the rumours are true or false.

by Karuto - 2008-01-02 15:50
» But...

People are taking this is fact. That's their downfall. I could say that Microsoft will start developing games for the PS3 in Japan, and I'll say it's from a reliable source inside Microsoft Japan. Would that make it reliable?

by spartan18 - 2008-01-02 17:26
» SUCK IT!!!

http://ps3.thegamereviews.com/story-342-Rumor-Killer-No-MGS4-on-360-says-Konami.html

all you retards thinking that the 360 is actually capable of handling mgs4's graphics, suck it. It's not happening. Enjoy paying $500 more to get an ultimate

by xicor - 2008-01-02 22:34
» -_-

....

Nothing in that article stated that Xbox 360 can't handle MGS4 graphics, infact Xbox 360 can easily handle those graphics. The article was only stating that the producer made a statement saying that they aren't making the game on Xbox 360 CURRENTLY. When he said that, he didn't say the reason was because Xbox 360 can't handle the games's graphics...

Graphics aren't the problem, it's the company that is making it. Even if the only problem was just the graphics, they could always just lower the graphical quantity so it would be able to work on the ported system.

This doesn't mean it wont be ported to Xbox 360 in the future.

by Yaz - 2008-01-03 00:18
» MGS4 on the 360 rumours have been going for quite some time

It's true some are taking it as fact, but it is also true some take the denials as fact.

Regardless of the facts, we can only wait and see. We went through the same thing with the PS2 and XBox for MGS2, with rumours of an XBox version being shot down as quickly as they arrived. And then what happened? Yep, it came to the XBox in the form of MGS2:Substance, despite all the denials! Not saying the same will be repeated for MGS4, but it IS possible. :)

Let's wait and see.
