Last week IGN was the first to reveal details about Rockstar's first title heading for the Xbox 360. Early this morning in New York the publisher, Take-Two Interactive, officially announced this title along with a release date for North America and Europe. The game is being developed by Rockstar San Diego, the creators of the very successful Midnight Club racing series. Scheduled for release in North America on May 22nd and will be priced at $39.99. Then on May 26th it will hit Europe's shores with a price tag of €39.99 and £29.99 in the UK.

"Our goal was to create a game that is perfectly addictive in its focused simplicity, a game that showcases the true possibilities of a next gen experience, not just in looks but in feel and pace," stated Sam Houser, Founder and Executive Producer of Rockstar Games. "We wanted to use the power of the new hardware and the resolution of new televisions to give the game an immediacy, an intensity and a sense of physicality and reality, resulting in a purer, more visceral experience that simply was not possible previously." Houser continued, "It is a distillation of game design philosophy, focusing on removing the traditional areas of compromise inherent in managing size and scope and concentrating the hardware's entire power on one activity, with the aim of doing that better than it's ever been done before."

It will be interesting to see how this title does when it is released. Hopefully Rockstar won't see another failure similar to what happened to GTA Advance back in 2004.

# next-gen PONG... o boy!Macross1984 2006-03-06 09:05
wow.

rockstar.

just wow.

you never cease to supply me with reasons to dislike you.

lets see.. what are some of the upcoming titles being put out by the Rockstar factories?

okay we have BULLY .. a game where you go to school....and be a bully. HOLY CRAP. without a doubt one of the worst game concepts in recent years.

and now we have TABLE TENNIS... PING PONG NEXT GEN????!! you know i dont think ive ever considered Ping Pong to be a "surreal and visceral experiance". its not in the real world.. so flashy shines and accurate shadows and anti-aliasing are supposed to make it this incredible, breath-taking next-gen experiance? needless to say, i am more than a little skeptical. in the meantime.. i think im gonna go to school and bully some kids then play Ping Pong in the garage with my little neighbor Johnny... im feeling the need to engage in a 'surreal and visceral experiance'.

Table Tennis along with Bully are not only looking like little blips on the gaming radar... but they are also little blinking red lights that may being telling us that the robots at the rockstar factories seem to be running out of fuel...

and im not sad at all.
