Retailers have spoken: Xbox 360 failure rate is 30% |

Sugar-coating and a well prepared public statement can't hide anything from frustrated consumers. With so many complaints about faulty Xbox 360 consoles, it was only a matter of time before retailers couldn't handle the headache anymore. Finally, word has come out saying 30% of 360 units were defective.
Retailers claim that only Microsoft's box suffers such a high failure rate. A Sydney retailer stated, "Out of the Nintendo Wii, the PS3 and the Xbox 360, the Microsoft product is the only one that we have had constant problems with. In fact when we sell the Xbox 360 we tell customers to contact Microsoft if they 'Ever have a problem'."
Website SmartHouse also testified how they receive hundreds of emails from angry gamers about their 360. Many were unfortunate enough to have their units bricked just outside warranty period. One unsatisfied customer cried out, "Just to let you know that after 13 months, just outside of warranty, I have the 'rings of death'. Next step for me is to find out repair cost and contemplating going to PS3."
Microsoft claim that these problems are addressed properly, but that doesn't seem to be the case all the time. Someone told SmartHouse about troubles trying get a broken box fixed. To the person's dismay, what came back to his doorstep was a dusty console with a serial number different to what was sent. MS personnel were unable to justify, simply saying they did the right thing. Poor guy decided to refund his money, but it took a painful process, too.
On the good side, retailers find failure rates to be diminishing. At its current pace, it won't be long till the box performs as well as PS3 and Wii. Improvements are also supposed to be underway. Patience, our fellow gamers, patience.

Earlier, I was on here and I was reading the article about that off-road game being designed natively for the PS3 and being ported to the Xcrap 2.5 and the PC.
The Xcrap fanboys were making statements like: "well, it was designed on PS3, but will made better for the Xcrap 2.5. because its a better system." and they always post the safe comment: "Xcrap 2.5 rules." I told the trolls they need to get off of their crack pipes and wake up. The PS3 would beat that 4 shyt console out hands down, anytime, anywhere. This time next year or B4, the PS3 will be caught up or surpass the Xcrap 2.5. Sony will be sitting on top once more. Uhhh BTW, does any have any marshmellows 2 roast, I think my Xcrap 2.5 is on fire.

I recently had my 360 brick(outside of warranty) but didn't make me get a ps3.
I got a ps3 because I wanted one.(same with the wii).
As long as microsoft keeps fixing the 360s for fees smaller then the retail...then they do a hell of alot better then sony did with my ps2.(resulted in lawsuits if no one remembers...which sony lost!)

If the failure rate was 30% there would be a bigger stink by customers and retailers and there is no way MS could of keep them on shelves.
I find it funny that an Australia source would be the first to try and report failure percentages. There are only 200,000 Xbox 360's in Australia. That's not even 1 percent of the install base, it's 0.2 percent.
i only own a 360. so im no fanboy. my 360 has broken 3 times. and if this one breaks im selling my new one on ebay. (i got an extended warranty from EB games for a hundred bucks.) im going to jump ship to ps3 if this thing ever breaks again.

in case your all wondering...my grandma bought me a PS3 today and I have to admit it's nice. i havent touched my 360 at all and im not going to. infact i put my ps3 where my 360 used to be. stupid 360 with is over heating and noisy ass cooler. not to mention all 360s produced prior to this month will get the red ring of death at some point and time which is why i quit playing it and now im on my ps3 that has 0 problems lol

Things break down faster than a hip-hop dancer dancing for money. I had a launch console...didn't last 10 months and it wasn't used that much. Friend got one last august didn't last a day. D*MN shame MS.
yep. my second one just died. it's getting to the point that i fear every update that xbox live recommends.
i will never leave the 360 tho. and i bought and owned a ps3 for about a month when it released. aside from the fact that it was a blu-ray player i had no reason to keep it. which when the thing broke down and stopped playing blu-ray smoothly, we'll i returned it and spent my money on things more enjoyable.
The funniest thing about all of this is, even if it takes another year for MS to fix the overheating issues, they will still be way ahead of sony. The sony fanboys will all be touching themselves to MGS4 and a library of about 28 PS3 games and the xbox 360 will have a library in the hundreds. My 360 died on me after 6 months and my PS3 works great......as a blu-ray player. I think I played resistance, VF5, and motorstorm to the fullest, WOW! 3 games for a 600 dollar console. MS my have a high failure rate, but if it weren't for Netflix offering BD's, I dont think I'd even touch my PS3 until MGS4 comes out. I think all you cry-baby fanboys need to shut your mouths and look at the bigger crime: faulty console? or lack of quality games? I was upset when my 360 broke, and I even cursed MS for a few days. But during the 3 weeks it took for my xbox 360 to be repaired, I only used my PS3 a couple times to watch movies. My PSP sees more action than my ps3.

i worked for gamestop and let me tell you something, 360's do break. i blame them, its all because they wanted a head start so they rushed the system. the day it came out i had a system that was broken right out of the box. the man wanted to see if it worked before he left. i have about 10 friend that have 360's and all of them have exchanged it at one point. im not going to say that ps3 is better but it doesn't break as easy as the 360's do. i have to say that 360's are NOT starting to breakdown as easy now.

But in the real world in Japan at number is Trusty Bell: Chopins Dream for the 360 and the 360 sales have risen by 7,847 (+178%) whereas the PS3 could only manage number 3 with a big name like Ninja Gaiden Sigma and also sales of both machines are closing up with the PS3 only now selling 10,451 a week around 2 thousand a week more than the 360, the PS3 is looking like its going to fail even in Japan especially when you look at its terrible sales in the USA, so it looks like these hardware failures are just complete crap from a crappy source....

I have a 360, my primary system is the PS3. However, when seeing stories like this, I worry about the durability of my system. That's why if there's a game that comes out on ps3, and 360, I'm going to buy it for ps3, because I don't want to brick my system and have to go through MS hassles. I rather just play the exclusives, and try to extend my consoles life that way. I'm not going to play oblivion on the xbox, cause I know that's a game that requires a lot of play time and I don't want to get into the game play it for long hours, or play the game and accidently fall asleep leaving the console on, and wake up and have the 3 rings of death staring at me. I definitely expect better from MS, better product and better customer services.
I know that class action lawsuit is coming... so keep your receipts and boxes [or upc tabs]
Omg did everyone read the article on that one site that showed Ps3 failure rates at 90%. Sony put chips in all ps3's to monitor if they have failed or not, and when they failed sony employers broke in to people's houses and replaced the consoles to cover it up, so no one would know the difference.

RFOM sucked compared to Gears for enjoyment... I'd rather have a short game then a game that never seemed to end but was hard to choke down when nothing changed.. and Nintendo needs games.. If 200,000 is 0.2% of the install base, the install base must be 100,000,000 (100 million)!
Dude, if you're going to try to act smart, make sure you do your calculations correctly.
The install base of the X-Box 360 is 10 million, so that figure would be 2%, rather than 0.2%.
