Retailers fan HDMI-enabled X360 rumor |
Ó
How would you like to buy a new Xbox 360 with a 120GB hard drive and a high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) all in a black casing for a little less than 500 bucks on May 1? Too good to be true? Retailers say not really. Weeks after Microsoft shot down the rumor of a new Xbox 360 (codenamed Zephyr), the buzz is on again and this time, local distributors are chiming in. Microsoft is still mum on the matter but it would be surprising if a lot of retailers across the nation would confirm the same gossip.
Whether the talk yields truth in it or not remains to be seen. Visit QJ.net regularly for updates.

Less than $500 bucks isnt that about £260 British pounds, I want one now please.
... it will be introduced at the same price as the premium 360, with the current 360s seeing either a price cut or or a new bundle (free XBL gold 1yr sub, extra controller, game...).
I also expect the 120HDD to be made available for 360 gamers (perhaps at the price of the current 20GB HDD).
We'll see.
omg i told you it was going to be there, and the prices are going to be cut too see the other post earlier.
I hope your right it will be a very good move by MS.
There is no need for HDMI...the 120gig hard-drive is way more important than an mpaa imposed bull***** a/v connection. VGA still looks just as good. What happens when hdmi is fully cracked will hollywood want us to install chips in our brains that keep us from perceiving high definition on screens that don't meet their standards.(meaning displays made by companies that dont have their lips firmly attached to the mpaa's pimply ass)
There isn't a chance in hell they'll sell it for £255 over in the UK.
From the register:
"The stand-alone version of Vista Ultimate retails for €600, or $780 here in Ireland. Amazon.com is selling this $780 version to Americans for $380. Or, to put it another way, Europeans are subsidising Americans by $400 on every copy they buy."
So I would expect the new Xbox to come in at £299.
£299 with 120 gig and HDMI im still going to be first in the queue.
After tax it will easily be £350
STFU. HDMI rules.
The official price or recommended retail price (RRP) for the premium 360 in the UK is £279.99, or let's just say £280. Sure you may find it cheaper elsewhere, but I'm taking about the OFFICIAL price.
Hence it's not impossible for a new 360 to be introduced at THAT price, and if it's £20 more expensive, so be it.
Like I said, we'll see.
HDMI has no picture quality advantage over VGA, or even component with a 1080p supported TV. I hope movie studios don't use it on HD-DVD movies ever. People will find a way to copy HD-DVDs anyway so all that would do is piss people off. At least sony wasn't fully responsible for the introduction of HDMI like blu ray. I don't want to ever buy anything made by sony anymore.
Why speculate about price? Just wait until the damn thing is released. I won't be upgrading, not even the hard drive. I just want the new controller that it's rumored to come with. I hope they finally fixed the D pad, since that's the only thing wrong with the old one. I wonder if it will be available with a factory installed HD-DVD drive...
Ha! Look at what Microsoft is doing! They're trying to make their own version of a PS3. Its black like a PS3, has HDMI, like a PS3, and has a hard drive, like a PS3. Microsoft is stupid.
HDMI does have better picture quality then VGA, you're an idiot. HDMI is digital and VGA is analog. You're a *****ing idiot if you beleive that its no different then 1080p component, with component the image is mixed in to 3 analog cables causing smearing and a wose picture. I'm also willing to bet that when you're playing a game the HDMI wont use hdcp so it won't be protected. HDDVD and blu ray have already been cracked too.
actually they're not zubsidising americans, the inflation it due to VAT taxes.
It won't make much (if any) difference for gaming, but most people don't realize the benefit of HDMI for upscaling standard DVDs to 720p, 1080i/p. Regular DVDs can not be upscaled with component cables (only 480p). The 360 currently does this' (through VGA only), and it would be great to take advantage of this on my HDMI-enabled t.v. Gaming wise, I probably won't care,(my t.v. can do 1080p only through HDMI) but at least I'll be using my t.v. to its potential.
you mean like sony was trying to make their own original xbox with the ps3... ;)
It has a Hard drive like a PS3 ?, did you forget the 360 came out a year before the PS3 with a hard drive then?, Oh and its DOUBLE the size of the PS3 Hard Drive to.
Does that mean If I use a VGA cable my Dvds will look better on my hdtv than the HD cable that comes with the 360?.
another stupid RUMOUR!!! MS THEMSELVES HAVE CONFIRMED THERE NOT MAKING AN 120GB HDD AND HAVE NO PLANS TO DO SO! This also wont be fair on people who just bought a 14 gig (yeah thats how much is really on it) version recently
How else are they gonna turn the 360 into the Tivo like gadget they spoke of earlier in the year without a bigger hard drive. This new system can't be a myth, it has to surface some time.
Keep hoping it wont come out PS3 fanboy, and 20 gig users what has that got to do with anything?, the PS3 had 20 gig to but now it looks like only 60 gig are available so what about those 20 gig users is it fair on them?.
Yes, I've read that the fall 2006 update enables the 360 to display games in 1080p over component or VGA, and upscale DVDs to 720p, 1080i/p over VGA only. It's defininitely worth testing out...let me know, since my television doesn't have VGA. Hope this helps.
It's supposed to have a new processor and sell for $479.99 (US)

My 360 just died... I'm buying a PS3. They come out with some crappy new 360 that only has a new HD (which I already had) and HDMI (which I will have in my PS3). But they don't do anything about the console melting or bricking like my 360 just did. At least I have NEVER heard of a ps3 bricking... I want one so bad :( I wish I had a real job and didn't live with mom.
