Some gamers who bought Splinter Cell: Conviction on day one are reportedly running into a freeze bug, mostly during the game's second level. Ubisoft knows about the problem already but they don't have a proper fix yet. Luckily it seems a workaround has already been found.

As Kotaku reports, the freeze reports come from Xbox 360 owners who play Conviction while connected to Xbox Live. The workaround involves clearing the 360's hard drive cache and rebooting with Xbox Live disconnected. This will reportedly bypass the freeze on the second level.

On their end, Ubisoft has outlined the steps needed to clear the Xbox 360's system cache. If you've experienced the problem, try this method until Ubisoft finishes looking into it and releases a fix.

1. Load to the Xbox 360 dashboard
2. Choose "System Settings"
3. Choose "Memory"
4. Highlight your hard drive
5. Press "y" for device options
6. from here just choose to clear system cache
  • Load to the Xbox 360 dashboard
  • Choose "System Settings"
  • Choose "Memory"
  • Highlight your hard drive
  • Press "y" for device options
  • Choose to clear system cache

how do they expect gamers to have to delete their game cache (all your downloaded updates) every time you want to play this game, i understand its not "everytime" but cmon really? how did this get past beta testing? ubisoft is really dropping the ball again...

i suggest a merger, ubisoft and activision then we can have ubivision and hate them twice as much

beta testing doesn't have Xbox Live? Or it uses a different Xbox Live like Xbox Live Beta just to test out how multiplayer connections would work out without actually playing it on the live server putting it out in the wild.

A real developer should test out a game before giving it to the masses. That also includes playing the finished version on normal servers.

I didn't have any problems (on the forth mission) maybe because I installed it on my flash drive
