Report: 4GB Xbox 360 slim can't handle Halo: Reach online co-op

360sAt only US$ 199, you can pick up a 4GB Xbox 360 slim unit. Quite an affordable price range, but with the release of Halo: Reach, those who opted for the to get the console for less are now realizing why it's so cheap. According to a report from Kotaku, this particular console is unable to support online co-op for Halo: Reach.

After picking up a copy of Halo: Reach, a Kotaku reader decided to play the single-player campaign with a few friends using his 4GB Xbox 360. He was unable to start a game and was left with a message saying, "One or more players do not have a hard drive which is required for this playlist," he narrated.

The support section at Xbox.com offers a similar explanation, "One or more players do not have a certified Xbox 360 hard drive attached to their Xbox 360 console. Some multiplayer aspects of Halo: Reach require an Xbox 360 certified hard drive."

Plugging flash drives into the system will not solve the problem, seeing as the game requires "an Xbox 360 certified hard drive". The game doesn't mention such a requirement, but it does indicate "features and requirements may change without notice". Problem is, these Xbox 360 owners could have really used that notice.

The 250GB "Xbox 360 certified hard drive" for that particular model retails for US$ 129.99 at GameStop. Add that cost to the US$ 199 console price, then you'd have paid about 30 bucks more than if you got a 250GB unit in the first place.

Uh, serves you right for buying into such a crap deal in the first place? Seriously, a 4GB harddrive? That's HALF the size of the ORIGINAL XBOX'S.

Moron. That particular model is not aimed at hard drive users. The Xbox 360 Core and Arcade did not have any storage space whatsoever!!!! 4 GB is a huge step up!

Dude if you have over 20 games This puny Xbox, will be filled. Demos? Pffft no way. A terabyte(1000gigabytes) is $70 at the store. The 4gb xbox is literally a scam meant to rip off money depressed people, who are stupid enough to think it is a good deal. M$ is literally getting pennies for stick 4gb in there just to make extra profit.

Is your life really that boring and pointless that you have to rag on a video game console?

A few years ago I would have been just like you, but thankfully I'm not that pathetic anymore.

I sincerely feel sorry for you.

On the back of every Co-op Halo Game it says Hard Drive is needed to play Co op, I don't even know why would you buy a arcade 360 in the first place. 300$ for 250G wifi and new design is worth it.

cheapie SKU of consoles shouldnt even exist. Those people are getting a big break by being allowed to buy a stripped down model.

Any reasonable company would just produce a single SKU and leave it at that.

Poor people shouldnt be buying consoles anyway.

Some of us actually have to work for our money and not just go crying to mammy and daddy that you want one. Cheaper versions are a good thing for people who don't need all the extra frills.

I am a ps3 user that is reading a 360 article only to bitch how the ps3 is better...

seriously, fanboy or not... that's NOT a way to treat your gamers... I mean, most of halo: reach players must be 360 hradcore gamers...

instead of laughing i feel bad. I love microsoft (PC GAMER)... there was no need to do a crappy move like that...
360 4GB FTL =/

Even with a 250Gb Xbox S, the console has FPS issues with the game, I've had many slowdowns on the Reach edition console. The Xbox just cannot handle that much graphical processing, its time is ending.

Still, that is pretty cheap that the 4GB console can't handle a game where its never really said that you CAN'T use a 4GB Xbox S with the game. Even with core system, the games were playable. Very bad move for casual gamers dare I say.

Did you even read the article?
"One or more players do not have a certified Xbox 360 hard drive attached to their Xbox 360 console. Some multiplayer aspects of Halo: Reach require an Xbox 360 certified hard drive."

Anyone that doesn't have a hard drive gets "Halo Reach Gimp Edition". Sucks really bad for people with the old version 360 because those HDDs are out of production.

what ripp deal between bungies and M$ , how 4gb of memory can not be used as cache, sory but old strategy M$

same shit :

- PS3 removing ps2 then selling a hardware
- activision removing dedicated servers then selling dedicated servers in black ops
and many more

The biggest rip-off with DLCs, that the content is already on the disc & you have to pay for it. It started with Capcom over RE5(even after they released the unlock for it free), 2k Games holding off on unlocking multiplayer(or something it was), Activision's dedicated server pyramid scheme, etc... It is coming to a point where gamers are going to end up paying more for what should be free, available on Day 1, software emulation could easily be run on the consoles, etc...

After this gen, I don't know if I will continue to stay with consoles... especially with alot of these schemes being done.

I still have one of the old launch 360s, installed the game to the hard drive(120 GB), and it run smooth. Plus they are still producing the HDDs (120 & 250GB) if you had bother to look at retailers' websites & instock items.

u dont need a HDD from MS, just get a usb HDD or a fast usb stick (20-30MB/s read) and install the game to it

agreed 200 percent. Family and responsibilitie s come before a video game that can break at any time. I put a lot of my hard earned money and time towards other responsible causes multiple times. But then again. Not every knows what it means.

the issue is that some of his friends have it installed on a hard drive and he doesn't....so there's differences on load times etc.

You can't have co-op with those inconsistencies .

If 4 people all running from the disc can't play co-op that'd warrant all the above abuse..anyone fancying trying that out?

# GREED.The Truth 101 2010-09-18 02:33
M$ are as money hungry as Activision & Apple, i mean they have made MILLIONS from consumers by overpricing there products, even charging for services that SHOULD be free (such as xbl). And now they are scamming the 4gb slim users to submit into buying an OVERPRICED 250gb HDD 'because they didn't read the small print', even though something like that should have been MORE CLEARLY stated. HOW MUCH MORE MONEY DO THEY WANT!!!

for a start, xbox live HAS TO BE FREE!, it's a p2p online system which an online player is a host server... so were paying even though WE host with our own bandwidth for them, they could've given us dedicated servers, i would have been happy to pay.

Business means greed for these fat cats, but how much money could they possibly need? they aren't thankful to us consumers, we are the reasons why they even get a penny. No loyalty.

P.s. and as for them comments made by some fruitcakes about 'i have a life its a video game', & 'family responsibilitie s come first' why are you here then making comments? your life must be crap if you really need to go on a GAMING WEBSITE to talk about your pathetic life. Besides gaming is great, that's why there's billions that play it. including ur mother.

and for the comment about 'technology is for people who can afford it' that's not true moron, technology is meant & SHOULD be affordable to the average earning consumer, that how business works dummy, so they can make sure every1 can afford thus meaning every1 buys it. If you wanna pay loads for something that is worth a lot less.. then you might as well bend over for Bill Gates himself.

As for me, i have ixtreme LT (plays backup copied games) on my xbox 360, I also have a jtag which i make money from eg. mw2 10th lobbies... i even go on xlink kai to play online so i don't feel as raped as many people do... I think every1 else should do the same.

Why all the arguing? It has nothing to do with M$ or Sony. We all know they both fail hard when it comes to the video game industry. What you all need to realize is that you are arguing over a Halo game. That's the bigger problem people!

And this talk about families/responsibility....No one forced you to start a family :D
