Remedy: We didn't expect Alan Wake to take that long to get right

It took a long time coming, five years in fact. But did you know that developer Remedy Entertainment themselves did not expect Alan Wake to take that long? This fact was recently revealed by Matias Myllyrinne in an interview.

"Yeah, could be that we shared with the world too early," he said, referring to the E3 2005 announcement for the game. "To be fair, we did not think it was going to take this long to get right, sowhen we announced we did not think folks would have to wait for so long. The first Max Payne was a similary story too, but I think as long as you can live up to the vision you set to build people will still be excited and welcome the game when it's done."

Would they have done anything different with the way they did the game? "On 20/20 hindsight many of us would do some things differently. That's just the intrinsic nature of innovation and building something new for the first time. However, what matters is the end result though - creating what you set out to do and being able to share with the world. With the game that shipped I feel we captured the essence of the experience we wanted to share with the world."

At the end of the day, what's important is that the final Alan Wake product "lives up to the original vision".

Alan wake was supposed to have a PC version in the beginning, right?

The fact that it got cancled means they never got it quite right.

Alan Wake was supposed to have a PC version, and was supposed to be one of the first games that made heavy use of quad-core processors. It was going to have a lot more physics play involved as well. Kinda wish it had retained that, but in the end I still love the game.
