Record breaking retail sales for Halo 3 on Day One

Halo 3 - Image 1A retailer just about sums up how well Bungie Studios' masterpiece Halo 3 did on its first day of sales in the UK: "if sales continue at this rapid pace, it could end up being the biggest ever first day sales number for an entertainment product, beating any CD, DVD or book that has gone before it," said Gerry Berkeley, a trading manager for Woolworths.

He also added that Halo 3 practically flew off the shelves once the stores opened on the morning of the big launch, and in Halo 3 midnight launches as well. "Our midnight openings were a great success. Big crowds showed up with customers and staff alike in great spirits," said Gamestation's Jenny Leach.

It looks like Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter is right on the money regarding Halo 3's success (yet again). He said that Halo 3 may very well reach a 3 million sales mark in its first 12 days, and with the rate that the game is going, its certainly not an impossibility.

Will Halo 3 indeed reach or exceed expectations? Do check this space often to find out.

» This Is Crazy

Because in the 2 gaming stores we have in my part of WA they havent sold any. I even talked to the guy and he said "the people were prolly buying them from Gamestop" and at best buy it looks like they've sold a few but not a substantual Amount. Though Im Not An Idiot i understand 1 small part of WA doesnt make a HUGE diffrence

If you look at bungie.net almost 1.5 million unique players have logged in with halo3 already. That isn't counting people that bought the game without live. Sales speak and hope for a ps3 savior is still well... just the great hope.

» Yes

Your right Wilmheath. 1.5 milion unique players on live and so many were unable to login yesterday due to the traffic and update (i was one of the unlucky few). To bash microsoft for marketing this game well is just straight up retarded. If anything, game developers should be using this as an example of how to promot an excellent game.

» MS takes care o' their own

Mine was scratched to all hell but it still works perfect. I'll wait til CoD4 and AssCreed come out to distract the wait time when I get mine replaced unless of course it stops working altogether.

Side note - I thought it was wierd my H3 disk was really really scratch and played fine; but my Oblivion disk had a tiny scuff and it would crash all the time in towns.

» to bad you are retarded

» Yes

Halo hit over 150 million but the fact remains its not the best selling thing ever on opening night. If i recall correctly Harry Potter 7 made on midnight launch(trust me i was there :) ) 390 million thats partially included with pre-orders and that was on opening day. I doubt halo 3 got that much, but no doubt was it going to get that much sales due to it being way over-hyped.

» You must live in some backwater part of WA

I live in Bellevue, where one of the largest Best Buys in the country is, and there were around 1000 people lined up. This is from a friend because I would never go to Best Buy, always way too many people and I hate that store, so I don't know how accurate it is, but supposedly around 1000, probably more he says. And there were at least 200 in line at the GameStop I went to, many of them there before 9 PM, and probably many more at the Issaquah store.

» Weren't you the guy

Who said he didn't think Halo 3 would hit $155 million, way back when QJ had anon commenting, and a bunch of people reamed you for it? You must have vastly underestimated the power of this fully armed and operational battle station.

And by fully armed and operational battle station, I mean hype.

Also, Halo 3 has the highest first day sales in ENTERTAINMENT history, not the highest first day sales of anything ever. They don't count books

by Kingofdaberbz - 2007-09-27 01:11
» NOPE!

» Well

In terms of entertainment possible i still remember Lord of the Rings selling more than that on first day or maybe that was the weekend.

Yes i was the one who stated that but unfortunately I underestimated all the Fanboys to hype this game up. I played Both halo 1 and 2, 1 was awesome, 2 was nothing too exciting other than multiplayer.

Im getting 360 and playing this game but i do not see anything mindblowing that halo 1 did.

» Halo 2 story line

Halo 2 gets bashed a lot as many regard 1 as better. For game play I would agree.

But the story line laid down in 2 really is the bridge for 1 and 3. Halo 2 for me is what really makes the Halo game such a success. COD 1-2-3 and upcoming 4 are good games for playing but have no real story line. I know that some may disagree but we know the germans lost the war even before we start the game. Halo is not alone with a good story as I think Valve with Half life are also onto a good thing.

Had Halo 2 been another "fight the enemy blast the ring and move on" Halo 3 would not enjoy the success it has today.

» Whoops, they do count books, and this is why Halo 3 beat Deathly Hallows

Because it's the highest grossing event in US entertainment history. Forgot about that part. Deathly Hallows made something like $300 million+ globally, not just in the US. And it launched in 93 countries simultaneously.
