Shooters will work with Microsoft's new Natal tech. Devs will just have to rethink their approach to the standard shooter control scheme to do it. That's what Rare design director George Andreas revealed in a recent interview.

Speaking to VideoGamer, Andreas said that while it might not be immediately obvious how a first-person shooter would work with Natal, it is possible. It might not be the exact same experience as playing with a conventional controller, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing.

Shooters work the way they do at the moment because they’re based around the original Xbox 360 controller. You throw that away, you throw that interface away and here’s a completely different interface – now how do we create a shooter for this? Does it mean that you have to run, strafe, turn, throw grenades in the way that you’re used to? Maybe not. Maybe there’s another way of doing shooters.

YouÂ’re probably not going to get exactly the same experience that you do with a conventional controller, but that could also be a very good thing. There may be new avenues there that people havenÂ’t explored yet that might open the product up to an even broader audience. We donÂ’t know.

So, can you do a shooter on Natal? Of course you can. Will it be exactly the same as something youÂ’re used to on a control pad? The answer to that is probably not, but does that mean itÂ’s better or worse? Well weÂ’ll see what we can do.

While the aiming doesn't present much of a problem, exploration is a bigger issue. Unless it's an on-rails shooter ala Time Crisis, of course. We'll find out how Natal affects FPS titles on the Xbox 360 when it launches next year.

In other words, they wont be able to get fps to work with natal. He's just talking in circles saying what people have already been saying, that they'll have to reinvent it, probably to poor affect (I hate rail shooters).

dId you even read the article they said they'll just reinvent it. Or if you dont know what FPS means i'll just tell you that its just a camera mode

no, Genotype is completely right. They don't know it themselves, so they "just talk in circles" like Genotype perfectly described it. Even if they "reinvent" it, they can't replace a button or trigger. Sony understood that with EyeToy and that's why they developed a new Motion Sensoring Controller, just like Nintendo.

Microsoft, on the other hand, copied EyeToy, and tried to improve that faulty system. Even with voice recognition and their so praised "full body tracking", it will never be able to run without problems. It will be funny to see Xbox 360 users waving around with their hands just to shoot a gun.

And Sony learned another thing. A late start that lags behind other consoles gives the competition a great advantage. Look how great the advantage of the 360 against teh PS3 is, just because it was released a year later. Now if Sony releases their Motion Sensoring controller nearly a year before Natal, they might build up enough userbase and support to eliminate Natal before it it is even released.

That's what Micro$oft is best known for. They just wanna make Natal appeal to hardcore audiences by re-inventing the way they play FPS games. It could feel something like the Wii only without the Wiimote, but will FAIL miserably if the camera trips up with the Response of movement.

I think your wrong. Judging from the press conference, their only doing this to attract the casual audiece and steal some of the wii sales. Hitting balls and painting with my avatar isn't exactly "hardcore".

the M4natal can also have a in scope mini LCD to simulate Zooming with HD GFX

the M4 natal will fully reconisable by natal thech

the M4 reloead must be done by the natural reloading movement

the M4 natal can come with iron ligh red laser wich Ray trance can beutifuly continue from real world to 3d world in corect geometry

Isn't the idea of NATAL to move away from having a controller?

MS and other devs have to be able to make their games work without a controller otherwise, what's the point of the project?

» And how much would this cost

100 dollars for Natal alone and in Microsoft's world 300 dollars for your M4 Natal.

» Agreed with Tiger

I think Natal will be a cool novelty for browsing the dashboard with, and seems to have some potential in its voice recognition with RPGs and stuff, but I would never play an FPS with it, even if they actually got it to work right. I don't want to flail my arms around to throw grenades or crouch in RL to make my char in game crouch. Not my idea of fun

If they can get the full body tracking to work well I guess it'd work well in racers and other games where the in-game char doesn't move a whole lot, but it will still never be as accurate as a controller.

» Whats a

grenade lunsher? oO and Hyper Shok

Never going to happen and if it does I truly think your idea will be atleast 200 dollars main reason Tiny HD LCD is going to be expensive as hell which also has to have fast response time as well as fast decoding of video so there is no delay. Unless connected by USB also needs a really fast connection between Xbox 360 and ur M4 Natal which I am not sure if the regular 2.4ghz for the xbox 360 controller would suffice. If it was just a button and a regular optical scope I think it would be a lot cheaper. Map the trigger to R as a regular controller and use Natal for the rest and the scope would just maginfy it so it wont be any clearer just be more pixely I'm afarid. Also for that I am afraid they would have to steal something from Sony which would be a light for Natal to concentrate on probably near the scope since Natal was by the looks of it really just to detect simple movement of the human body.

Nice imagination? Probably just not feasible for the time being as the price would be too high.

As GT5 fans will buy whells to enjoy simulation driving , FPS lovers should try this ,

M4 natal is not a standar accesory but a new FPS experience who require real aiming skils by using NAtal technology to detect M4 natal posistion and action in space .

we can play FPS without M4 natal but :

M4 natal comme to make the give a plus :

1 - give the player a weight in hand

2 - bulet sound efects and shok while shooting

3 - avoid the screen hude and aim with rifle

the scope is optional and ths in scope lcd is HD GFX but low resolution so the video is calculated by Natal tech and tranfered to the SCOPE ,

in the end i thing price for sush a experiece is nothing
