PSA: Halo: Reach beta kicks off today

The Halo: Reach beta starts today. For the benefit of those who are not sure how to get it, here's a quick step by step tutorial.

First of all, you need a copy of Halo 3: ODST and an Xbox Live Gold account. Also, make sure that your hard drive has at least 1.2GB of free space. If you already have all of that, do the following:

Insert the Halo 3: ODST campaign disc and launch the game.

Select “Play the Beta” from the main menu. (You won’t see this choice prior to May 3.)

The first time you do this, Halo 3: ODST will need to download the beta from Xbox LIVE Marketplace. You’ll see the window below, and you’ll need to select “Confirm Download.

When the download has finished, choose “Continue.”

You’ll be taken back to the Halo 3: ODST main menu again. Select “Play the Beta” once more.

Now that you’ve successfully downloaded the beta, selecting “Play the Beta” will launch the game, instead of downloading it.

Insert the Halo 3: ODST campaign disc and launch the game.

Hope they try something new in this one because the first 3 all play like a 10 year old FPS and have a barely existant story to follow, i just hope the Halo groupies don't get their own way and expect Halo never to change because to me Halo is just a very standard FPS with higher than average production values with almost no replay value on single player campaign mode.

Halo has one of the best story lines for a fps that I could think of...idk where you get that BS from (probably playing too much COD)

What can the average person tell me about any character except Master Chief? And what memorable plot points are there that make any of the Halo games stand out from it's prequels? I'm sure people who play enough will remember some of these things but a good story should hit you straight away and this really doesn't, but it is well produced for a standard kind of FPS but story.. No.

I guess thats all opinion because for me there are plenty of memorable points,characte rs shit even the music..all though that's martin o'donnels doing..all of which i cant say for any other fps...

Half Life 2 trumps the decaying storyline by far in my books. Before Halo 2, the Halo lore was really good, still had a lot of mystery. But overtime the multi player got in the way and corrupted the storyline of the single player and general lore. At least, that's my theorem.

Its an Open BETA, 90% of the time they're used to test the servers first, this is normal. Give it some time.

as you say, part of the point of the beta is to test how much bandwidth the game will need when it comes out and how much strain it puts on the servers, therefore allowing them to do any necessary upgrades for when the game comes out

also so far the game has been fine apart from the first day where there were problems, not laggy and fast matchmaking for me here in UK!!! also weapons and Grenade balance is just great none of the weapons are over powered all are perfect in my opinion
