Prey demo size for Xbox 360...

Ó

prey3D Realms, the makers of the game Prey haven't as of yet released a download date for the anticipated demo, however they have announced the size of it. Joe Siegler, webmaster on their forums announced that the demo size will be 650mb or there abouts.

'Yes, that's larger than the PC side. And before people start freaking out, I did inquire as to why it's larger, and got this explanation from Peter over at Venom...'

Its all about seek times, and the larger, less compressed, and less divided files means that the read time is more efficient and in the sense, the 360 is less prone to mid-level stalls. In the demo there are 3 PAK files, what this means is the read head has less time looking and searching for individual files. The 360 pre-cache's everything too, and as stated this stops any crashes that might occur if levels involve loading at intervals throughout.

It was stated that before compression, the file counts ran into the hundreds, and loading times were up to 5 minutes, but now the simple single count files for each level mean at maximum, you have a 45 second wait. This is very good for gamers as a whole, it means constant and fluid gameplay throughout.

Size doesn't really bother me.

My problem is crappy games coming out on the 360

Prey is just OLD techs, it might have a couple of nice addition to the doom 3 engine but the textures and the polygon feels like a 2 year old game.

I think MS need to start pushing game producers to make better games and RELEASE them.

This freaking console is great but the lack of games RELEASED is really not so good.

They keep promoting what's coming but we have been stack for months with the same few decent titles and a bunch of crappy games.

Back on topic , prey would have been great 2 year ago on a pc/ps2/xbox but not today on a 360 :(

If you've ever seen or played a game released in 2004 on the xbox or ps2 that was as technically or graphically impressive as PREY please feel free to let me know what the name of the game was seeing as I can't seem to "remember" wtf you are talking about...

Smart ass darko.

WHat i was saying in my post is that the game is using the same old DOOM 3 engine and yes it;s old and you can see it in every doom engine based game from the shiny texture to the boxy environments.

THe game might be half decent, and using some new features like allowing the user to use wall and roof in rooms making the maps more interesting....but i still would like to see games using new engines like the new unreal engine and making more use of the 360 power.

But i guess lot's of people are just happy with anything that is made available since there are not that many decend game on the 360 right now.

In a few months it will be a different story once the real new games are finally coming out.
