Whether or not you agree with Microsoft and Bungie's decision to turn Halo 3: ODST into a full-priced release, it's definitely resonating with a lot of Halo fans, as indicated by this earlier report.

For those who want to make sure that they get a copy on day one, Microsoft has put together a promo that lets those who pre-order at participating retailers play as the tough-as-nails series stalwart Sgt. Avery Junior Johnson in the game's multiplayer Firefight mode.

The press release didn't list down these "participating retailers", but GameStop and EB Games are offering it. I also looked through Play.com, but the Halo 3: ODST listing there didn't mention it. Same goes for Game.co.uk.

Halo 3: ODST will begin orbital drop on September 22. The game will also come with a key for the upcoming Halo: Reach beta.

» Game should be

worth $30 at most but even that is ridiculous. I think it should be $20 for what it offers. But knowing those "hardcore" follow the hype Halo fans, they all would probably buy it. This is going to be a disc though right cause if its going over Xbox Marketplace at $60 it would seem extremely ridiculous.

» Ummm

Do you know anything about this game? I'll admit I'm a hardcore Halo fan and already have it preordered, but it has a campaign similar to Halo 3's in length (5-8 hours, more than 8 on harder difficulties), Firefight mode which is like Gears Horde mode and has virtually limitless replay, and Halo 3's multiplayer with all 24 Halo 3 maps, again with virtually limitless replay value if you enjoy it.

That's more content than most $60 games nowadays. You think that should be $20? We must live on different planets

» @Master Chef.

I don't need to buy Halo 3 multiplayer again. I already bought Halo 3 for $60 when it was released. Plus I've bought all the overpriced map packs. ($10 for 3 maps, only which 1 or 2 of them are good... Seriously)

Really, Halo 3 should have included ODST's 5-6 hour campaign seeing as it was so short and lackluster and survive mode, while the map packs should have remained paid DLC.

I'm glad to see someone actually feels the same way I do phyiyuku. :)

It took me aprox 6.7 hours to beat Halo 3's campaign on Normal my first time. (I went back to my games on b.net and added the time up).

That was the first Halo game I ever played...

Halo ODST's campaign and firefight mode (Which wasn't Bungie's idea. I've seen at least 20 threads suggesting it) is nothing more then content that should have been included on the Halo 3 campaign. Seeing as the extra content that you're bragging about is just the exact same multiplayer Halo 3 players already own it really isn't a valid point.

I guess for fanboys it's all worth it.

Whatever, I just call 'em like I see 'em. (p.s. look at Mega64's "Same old *****" video lol)

I've played and beaten all of the Halo FPS games (Wars is on my to-do list). I played the Halo 3 online demo (let's not kid ourselves and call it a beta), but I've yet to play 2 or 3 online - I did get pretty good in the PC lagfest that was CE though. I did solo 3 on legendary, but I haven't played since.

They're solid games, and I enjoyed playing them, but I'm no real fanboy I guess. I will probably pick up ODST regardless of price, and I'll judge it at face value.

I was pretty impressed with the way that they've implemented the story though in the E3 video.

» Why do people think its an add-on?

I has the REACH Beta on it....its not going to be some XBL DLC obviously. I'm getting it =) I liked 3 more than 2 but 1 more than both. Hopefully this new character will be cool.

You're still apparently missing the entire point that ODST includes more than most $60 games, even when you include the stuff you already own. So please explain why it should be much cheaper

ODST was going to be $30 or $40 when it was planned as a literal expansion, being only a 3 or 4 hour single player campaign. Then they doubled the length of the campaign, added 3 new maps, and added Firefight mode. And the price shouldn't go up with the content? Not how it works buddy

By your and phiyuku's logic next to no game save for RPGs would be worth more than $30, since very few of them take more than 6 or 7 hours to beat nowadays, and most of them have a much smaller multiplayer component.
