Our weekend treat is upon us as the Phantasy Star Universe online multiplayer open beta has finally become available in the Marketplace. Phantasy Star Universe is Sega's next game in the Phantasy Star series and with the beta you will be able to test out the MMO part of the game with everything from making your character to creating a party of you and up to five friends to explore the world of the Gurhal System and kill any monsters you lay your eyes upon.

The download is actually a lot smaller than we thought it would be - weighing in at 940.50MB. The open beta is a limited time demo which will grant you a temporary GUARDIANS License that will expire at 12:00AM on Wednesday October 18th. They should change the expiration date to October 17th since prior to ending the beta, Xbox Live will have downtime for server maintenance for 24 hours.

So if you have an Xbox Live Gold membership go ahead and check out the beta for PSU on the Marketplace; also if you want to try out the beta with one of the crew from QJ be sure to send a message to ALGEBRA as I will probably be playing it all week long.

Wasn't too fun to me, But then again...I'm not into these kinds of games. Though WOW and guild wars are both awesome. This game just bored me.

I need to get my friends on this. It was fun as hell

Only froze once during the tuturial so I had to figure the game out by myself. Oh well.

But other than that, this game is pretttyyy fun, need moar people though.

» Demo froze... also very unintuitive!!!

I didn't know what to expect with the game... I've only watched folks play MMOs before, never myself.

Started the tutorial...and it froze when the guy took me out of my room.

Restarted the game...it skipped the tutorial so I had NO idea what I was doing. I found myself in the center court area with 50 other people running around saying "hello" and typing "join my party...." or "how do I kill something".

In the end, none of us knew what the heck we were doing!! I even had a guy chatting with me on the microphone, as clueless as I was. A game that unintuitive (ie. can't figure out how to do ANYTHING) is not fun. Four hours of downloading a gigabyte... so I could stand there like an idiot looking at my character is not a great experience.

» welp

Its not hard to figure out how to do stuff...

I just found a level 6 person and partyed up with him. He showed me how to do everything, buy weapons and go on quests...its VERY fun, you guys just hvae ot be paitent and party up with people.

Is this game going to have a monthly fee???? I hope not.

» Tutorial lockup

I too had the game freeze during the tutorial and had to figure out how to play by myself, but after doing a mission and returning to my room I found out you can actually do the tutorial again by talking to the...er...thing in your room.

When the menu comes up, choose 'P Machinery Function', then choose 'Talk', then you can choose 'Play Tutorial' and it should hopefully work for you.

» MY EYESSSSSSSS

Why does this game look like trash? This game would/nt look out of place on the PS1...

And what's up with the gay names for everything? A rifle called "Burning Hit"? What is Sonic Team smoking?

just because everything isn't cliched and painfully obvious enough for your small american mind, you hate it? You're pathetic.

by chaos - 2006-10-13 19:41
» wow

this game is simply amazing. Sonic Team put in so many options compared to PSO. Addicting as hell. And so many people to play with!

by Shatterdome - 2006-10-13 21:04
» But....

Does it beat WoW....probably not...and if not, why bother ?

» hmm

i dont get this game, game froze on second floor, and it lags terribly, ive played mmoprgs for years and this just didnt make any sence.

plus im not a spacefan

by hmm - 2006-10-14 03:18
» froze on me too :(

Thrid floor yup. Hopefully the real game doesn't do that.

Every game out there, er, every mmo game out there should not (and acually will not) be compaired to WoW. It's a game of it's own. Just like FFVII, if you compaire WoW to FFVII lots of people would say why even bother with that silly old mmo. See that easy. Anyways the real appeal to mmo's for me at least is to get in early so the newer ones I am waiting and hopeing for a good new one.

by Shatterdome - 2006-10-14 08:42
» Well..

WoW is an MMO, so it's fair to compare it to other MMO's It's just been around for a little while, and has had alot of work put into it.

I've downloaded this demo, can't connect to the servers at all and from what I hear I should just skip the tut because it will freeze anyways...

I'll keep trying to check it out though....i'd like an MMO I can play from my couch with a headset.....damn I wish they would resurect True Fantasy Online......can only hope...
