Peter Moore Explains the Lack of New Arcade Content |

Ever wondered why Microsoft is so slow when it comes to adding some fresh Arcade content to Xbox Live? Of course there are some good titles but we want more, right? Lovely arcade games are scheduled for release but we don't know how long we have to wait! Well, Mr. Moore told Edge Magazine the following reason for that:"Here's what happened - people didn't believe that Arcade was going to fly. So we went round a year and a half ago as we were doing the final plans for launching 360, and told our publishing friends that here's what we think is really cool idea, where you could make games for hundreds of thousands of dollars instead of tens of millions, and at very low risk, but people didn't believe it. And we released it and it blew the doors down. Now all of a sudden we're in this phase where Sega, Namco, Konami, Midway... they want some of that. But we do have an important quality bar in place - we could probably throw 300 games up there quickly, and we are trying to get the independent guys going as well. It's almost going to be like Pop Idol, where someone will pop out suddenly - Geometry Wars is a great example."
He's actually saying they need to convince more developers to make games. But if you "could probably throw 300 games up there", why not do it? And is bringing these games to retail stores going to help? We want answers! With the recent additions of UNO, Jewel Quest and Marble Quest Ultra keeping the crowd fed for a while, maybe Microsoft should really accept more third-party submissions.

He said that they tried a year and a half ago to convince them, and not many took the bite. NOW, after the success of Live Arcade, those developer's all want a piece of the pie. What is holding back 300 games from being released, is that they want more than just a simple port of galaga. They want achievements implemented, a new graphical face lift to HD. They want different interface's, better menu's, live enabled, multiplayer if possible, and even more so, a total repackage of the product. Look at Geometry Wars. They gave it a new 3d look, and it blew up. Same concept, a bit more fast paced, more graphically pleasing, and it is a HUGE hit. They want that for all the live games. They don't want to just throw up 300 boring ports of old games with no achiements or new menu's or new modes. It's useless that way. Look at some of the other games on live that are just basic boring ports, they don't have such a following as Geometry wars.
So give them time

What he's saying is that they aren't just going to put 300 crappy games up, cuz then everyone woudl b*tch and moan that they are just passing off crap on XBLA. That's why they are undergoing a screening process to let only the good independent developers show off their stuff. If they let everyone just make $2 games then XBLA would become cheesy and alot of would be developers could lose their spot amidst the mass of crap that would be out there with out this filtering process.

Seems like they could even release MAME itself via live arcade.
They probably are stuck in a rut of hiring an ad market research firm to find out if their target demographic wants "Galaxian" or "Pac man"
Corporations..god love em. Some day they won't allow you to even play their console unless you wear a corporate t shirt tagged with a chip for three days out of the week. Course you'll pay for it and Bill Gates will tell us all it's a great deal cause he could make us wear it ALL week.
