Pandora wants in on it too, would 'love to be on' Xbox 360 |
Ó
Say you'll put on Xbox 360, please
Speaking to Joystiq, SVP of Business Development at Pandora, Jessica Steel, said they would "love to include game consoles like the Xbox 360 as part of this story at Pandora." Is it feasible? "It is technically possible," she said, "and we're glad that our listeners are helping us with that effort by making their preferences known."
Would you like to have this preference as well on your Xbox 360?

I love Pandora... the music genome project is way ahead of any of the other programs that other internet radio sites use. I've tried several, and last.fm is not bad by any means, but it's not Pandora.
This article makes me think that MS did not approach Pandora about this before last FM. I wonder why? Pandora seems to be more popular.
I want hulu. Their new desktop interface would be perfect for consoles.
A program called TVersity just started supporting it. With Tversity, you can stream Hulu to either 360 or PS3... the problem is the program is still a "beta." It has quite a few flaws and is difficult to make work properly for some people.
not to forget that Hulu is USA exlusive. You can't watch it outside of the USA, maybe in Cananda, too, but I don't know.
I for one have never heard of Pandora Radio station, only the new Pandora Handheld computer.
What type of music does this station play?
These things only interest me if I can stream this music while I'm playing a game. If this commandeers your console into a music streaming only device, I'll gladly pass. I use Pandora all day at work, but oddly not when I'm at home. We'll see how things go.
on the PS3, just use the web browser.
Is currently only available in the US, which is why you haven't heard of it.
Basically you create "radio stations" of your favorite bands, and Pandora will find other artists with the same style of music. It is amazingly accurate and it's a shame more people can't use it.
Hulu will NOT work on the PS3 web browser. It requires 512MB of RAM, and the browser only has 256 at its disposal. Same with streaming Netflix. What will work, however, is a site called Justin.TV. It's not perfect, and the frame rate can be a little low, but it's very much watchable.
At least Microsoft can recognize which is better. Am I one of the few people who actually gave both services several months of use before deciding which was better?
I too put months of time in to both. I've been a Pandora user for a very long time, listening to it mostly at work. My work ended up banning the site for some reason, and that's when I moved on to last.FM. I've been using Last.FM for about 6 months, and Pandora both at work and at home for over a year. Last.FM is not a bad service by any stretch of the imagination, but Pandora offers everything and more.
Last.FM picks music based on your liking by a simple genre program. Meaning if you pick Pantera, it's going to simply look through other artists in the heavy metal genre and throw them at you. The Genome Project program that Pandora uses looks at specific things one band does. If you pick Pantera on Pandora, it's going to look at their more popular songs and find out how they're put together, what key they're played in, how the vocals mix with the instruments, and which instruments are more dominant. Then, based on all that information, it picks other music for you. It's an amazing site, and Project Genome is an amazing program.
If all you want to do is go by genre like Last.FM does, Pandora can do that too, you just have to change your settings.
IMO, it's no contest, Pandora is hands down better.
It can mirror your entire mp3 collection/itunes folder. But I do agree that Pandora is far better at selecting music that fits my tastes than last.fm. For me, I've already outgrown my music collection and am constantly looking for newer music, so the mirroring feature isn't what I take advantage of. But your mirrored music can be a single station of many possible stations. I have both Pandora and last.fm apps on my iphone and I find myself using Pandora 80% of the time.
That's true, I forgot about that part. But as you said, you listen to the radio to find new music... if you wanted to listen to what you already have, you'd listen to what you already have. I wonder if this feature will be supported on the 360? Either way, last.fm is still something to be excited about for 360 owners.
